DBX 160A question

Sign in to disble this ad
Weird question: The manual for the DBX 160A compressor notes that the unit does not have an on/off switch, and they recommend that it be "on" at all times. Why would that be?

Basically, always connected from and to the device you want the compressor to work on. I plug mine in the effect loop of my Gallien-Krueger 800RB head.

Because it is intended to be a set-and-forget device, not an "effect" that you kick on and off. Of course musicians use their gear differently than studio and FOH guys, so we expect a bypass switch.

Actually there is a bypass switch. What they don't include is an on/off switch, saying that they recommend you keep the thing powered up and simply unplug it if you won't be using it for an extended period of time.

I'm just curious why they would recommend you leave the thing powered up. I've never heard of that before.

almost every studio that i have been in for the past 30 years leave the gear on ALL THE TIME..
It is said it is better to leave it on than to turn it on and off.. Whenever it turns on there is a surge of current that strains all components.... so leaving on is less wear and tear.. so it is said
