How many rack spaces does the 163x take and where can I get rack ears to add it to a rack.

The 163x takes 1/2 rack space.

2 units can be put together and will fit 1 rack space using mounting ears and a mounting "thing" that goes in between the 2 units.

Now to put 1 unit in 1 rack space you'll need some sort of "adaptor".
