DBX Question...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys, could someone tell me the difference between the DBX 160a, the 160x and the 160xt compressors..The situation I'm in is that I would like to even out the volume of all 4 strings, when playing the around the 5th fret of the A string it's kinda boomy and playing the G string is kinda weak especially above the 12th fret..Is a compressor the way to go or does anyone know of something that might work..I know it has to do with technique but in order to get some balls out of the G string I would have to barely touch the E and A strings...So any opinions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

You need a good setup, different strings, maybe different pickups... A compressor isn't really meant to fix issues with the instrument.

Anyway, back to the 160's... The a, x, and xt are all the same comp, I think the only differences are connector type (xlr on the x) and the xt has transformer coupled I/o. This is from memory, could be wrong. I'd hit up google for more info.

i own both a 160X and 160A, and aside from the connector configuration, they both have the same controls.
160X: TRS in/out
160A: TRS in/out, XLR in/out

but if i remember from my time at school, the various suffixes are for designating the newer model: X, XT, A. (i think that's the order...)

That's right. I knew it was something like that. I think the xt has trafos too. Not sure.

LOVE the 160A but it's easy to overuse.
