DC Brick Issues

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all, I recently bought a DC Brick; picked it up, plugged it in and it adds a crackling noise to my signal. I shook the brick itself and something inside it actually rattling, I'm sure this is not the norm. I have also noticed that one of the screws on the back of the unit has been sheared/cross threaded; the unit is supposed to be brand new, but it looks to have been tampered with.
Funily enough, I tried it again last night and everyting now seems to work fine (no crackle)... Has this ever happened to anyone before? I am on the verge of returning to the seller. Thanks all!

It's highly likely that a loose screw inside the unit is what's rattling around, and that sometimes it conducts electricity where it shouldn't. Now that the unit is working fine, I would just figure the loose screw has rattled into someplace where it is not causing a malfunction--but that if you shake the unit again, it will be "electrical roulette".

So should I return it under warranty or chance it? The reason being the seller on eBay is being a real prick & not wanting to take ownership.

Can you open it up and shake out the loose bit? I know you said one of the screws is shot--can you drill it out?
