Well, if you've already got an analouge delay, then you may have all of the lo-fi/warm delay tones covered, but I know the Boss RE-20 is dishing out a lot of GAS round these parts. It a reissue of the old Roland Space Echo tape delays. Got a very down to earth tone compared to the DD-20 which is fairly bright and digital tone, IMO/IME.

the DD-20 is like all the new boss digi-delays.. way too exact for my liking. seems to add treble as well.

+1 for the RE-20

That said the Akai Headrush is very good and in the same price as the two already mentioned. It has tap tempo and simulates multiple heads like the RE-20 (though no reverb). It also offers looping and a lot of tweaking in terms of head "placement."

They're all tap tempo and all very good (and good for bass too, I've tried them all and there was no low-end loss or tone suck when disengaged), so it really does come down to preference: the DD-20 has the fewest features, but is probably easiest to use, the RE-20 adds reverb and multiple heads for best in spaciness and the Headrush is the most versatile/interesting (though without reverb).

Good luck choosing.

Also, I forgot to mention the new EHX XO Delux Memory Man ReIssue. Its their Delux Memory Man put into a smaller box (still pretty big), with a load of new features. Likely the most feature-packed delay box on the market. But I don't know how user friendly it is, or even how good it sounds (probably pretty good), but it you want one box to do a LOT of things, this is it.

The new EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai stomps all over the DD-20 from what I hear, longer loop time, and with some clever switching can work as a 2 channel mono looper instead of a 1 channel stereo looper, it also has a feedback control for the looper and reverse functions with is what the big looping toys have.

8 Presets well a preset for each setting, the modulation delay is really nice and lush.

And the Street price is like $216 which is less than a dd-20

Hope this helps

No, the DD-20 dropped under $200 almost a year ago -- search for the thread if the Musicians' Friend price went back up. I'm not sure the OP'd want a Memory Man because he was talking about a digital delay. The MM reissue is still analog, right? Not to bash the Memory Man or anything -- I'm in love with my deluxe.

In any case, the memory recall on the DD-20 is far better than the MM w/Hazarai because you can save whatever settings you want, not just one for each delay type.

Ah ok, was just guessing since over here in the UK the price difference is quite substantial making the SMM cheaper.

Yeah the DMM is still analog but will only be made for about 3 more years due to supplies of bucket brigade chips.
