DE-COMPRESSION SICKNESS-- PART II

Sign in to disble this ad
HEY GUYS...

please forgive me. i am sure this qx has been asked before but i have not seen it.

are there any good compressors out there in mini-size? that is, small effects unit sized compressors which have all (or most) features of a big rack mount sized unit?

i would prefer a soft knee and adjustable thresh hold.

thanks

/s/ Dave

Durham Sex Drive is small, albeit not many controls, but it sure sounds good.

That is about as tiny as it gets.

As for "studio control in a pedal format," look at the MXR M87 Bass Comp, FEA Labs' offerings, Aguilar TLC, the new Empress compressor, and the VFE White Horse (bass mod available).

I have the FEA Labs Dual Band Optical Compressor:

FEA Labs - Professional Bass & Guitar Effects - Dual Band Optical Compressor-Limiter

Fully variable attack, release, ratio, threshold and level for both bands. Studio quiet whether engaged or in bypass mode. Capable of very nuanced levels of compression as well as heavy duty dynamic control.

I've had this gizmo for 4 months now and I'm loving it just as much as when I first got it. I also have a very expensive rack compressor in my studio - Pendulum Audio OCL-2 - and compared to it the FEA comp holds it own quite nicely.

Also, I've had a few email exchanges with Frank at FEA Labs. Great guy, really pleasant to deal with and committed to building quality stuff.
