Dead EBS Bass IQ

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I've had an EBS Bass IQ for a while now, and even after trying every possible combination of the two knobs I've yet to find a sound that's anything like the sound samples on the EBS website. The sound is always way too low and muffled, it completely eliminates higher treble sounds. The wah just doesn't "open" at all. I've tried changing the batteries and I plug it straight into the amp without any other effects.

So is my pedal broken or what?

Could very well be that the output level of your bass is lower than the optimal range for triggering the EBS. Try putting the bass through a pedal that can boost the level first, then into the EBS, and see if that helps.

i havnt been a huge fan of my EBS wah either, unless i run distortion before it it always seems very quite and muffled. Tried an ebs iq in a store once and had the same issue.

They take a fairly high level to trigger - I actually modified mine to have a different gain structure so it triggered more easily with my passive Corvette.

Try running a clean boost of some sort (doesn't have to be a dedicated boost pedal, just anything with a bit of clean gain will do like an EQ pedal.)

Also, the BassIQ has a high frequency blend control which is inside the enclosure - try adjusting that. For more info download the manual from EBS.

I tried to fiddle with the blend control inside the casing, but didn't get quite the right effect. I'll be getting a boost pedal somewhere and trying that too as soon as i get to it.

Thanks for the advice!

EBS with Boss Limiter Enhancer?

Running a limiter enhancer with the EBS BASS IQ may be a sick combo. This is merely speculation, however. I have to try it.

just checking, if you have any compressor before the BassIQ? the compressor removes the dynamics required to trigger the pedal, so if you have one before, trying putting the compressor after the BassIQ instead.

I had a similar issue with mine. I have a very high output active bass but could not get this mutha to quack enough for my taste. I sold it on and replaced it as a tempory measure with standard Q-Tron, which I felt was a superior pedal, apart from the size. I eventually got a Meatwad.
