"Dead Man's Switch" Pedal ???

Sign in to disble this ad
OK..I have a quick question for some of the tech-savvy guys here.

Can a pedal, such as a tap tempo pedal be reworked to function as a "dead man's switch" for an effect?

I am thinking that it would be nice to be able to lift my foot to turn off an effect between notes that are very close together.

As far as I know, this doesnt exist, but it may?? I certainly didnt turn up anything on a forum search.

Any words??

No...I mean something where the effect remains on as long as my foot is holding the pedal down and it goes into bypass when I lift my foot.
Visualize a sustain pedal for a keyboard. I'd like to rig something like that up to work with an effect pedal.

Replace the switch in the pedal with one of these.

Then just mod it - add the momentary switch to the effect. The regular switch will stay in place, and the momentary can be wired to turn the effect on OR off when depressed.

Yeah, I feel that. I was hoping to arrange something to work without having to alter the original pedal. I think I'd have to transfer everything into a whole new box, since it's an MXR pedal, and there isnt a lot of spare room for more switches. But...I could live with it.

Momentary switch! Exactly what I was waiting to recommend .

Build a loop switcher w/ a momentary switch...

Yep, this is what I was going to recommend.

Take a momentary design and put it within a loop pedal that you can probably find many designs for depending on how fancy you wanna get with ground loops, impedance, etc...

+1 to a custom looper with a momentary switch. Much easier than rehousing and modifying an effects pedal, especially if you think you might sell the pedal later on.

You could just put a killswitch on your bass. That's what i do; it's very simple to do.

He doesn't want to kill his clean signal, just his effects.

There's a couple of different variations on this kind of thing I've been meaning to get someone to build for me for ages.

But yeah, basically: A bypass loop box with two foot switches, one latching, one momentary. The latching switch determines the "rest" state of the pedal, the momentary switch does the opposite. So if the latching switch is "off", the momentary switch cuts the loop in, and if the latching switch is "on" the momentary cuts it out.

It would be pretty easy to build and super-useful for a bassist.

I also had a plan for a more complicated version with a consistent connection to the output via a blend knob and a delay pedal in the loop. Which would be super-********ing mint.

(Extra ****s for fake swearing)
