I'm in the market for a pedal and I really want something that will make my bass have a real deep sound but also cut through like Justin Chancellor from Tool or Kristoffer (some sweedish lastname) from from Pain of Salvation.
My band has recently started to play music like these band real Prog Metal/Experimental stuff and i need something to give me that extra BOOM but not get lost in the mix too
I was thinking some type of overdrive but im not sure
im looking to spend about $150...no more please if its possible
Thanks in Advance
oh and sound clips are always nice XD |

Then we'll talk.
But right off the bat I'd suggest one of these: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...-DI?sku=480206
it can essentially blend your clean tone with a distorted version of the same tone (among other nice features), which is exactly what Justin Chancellor does, not using that pedal per se, but he has a clean amp and a dirty distorted amp running at all times and blends them to achieve a imo much more interesting/full/powerful sound than just straight bass. But that box has a whole lot of tone fattening features, what I describe deals mainly with the blend knob. I don't have one myself but I've heard endless good things about it. Maybe look on the bay for a used one.
Geddy lee does similarly, and its really obvious live (not in a bad way...)
I'd also suggest boosting the low mids.

Also, the very best way to not get lost in the mix is to have a large-enough amp with the mids boosted a bit. IMO the majority of posts we get here saying they need more boom to cut through are either scooping their mids or using an inadequate amp. |

Sorry, not much into pedals.
Or, just a nice EQ pedal.

Like i said my band is playing alot of Prog Metal/Experimental now and i need something to go with that example being some type of overdrive maybe? |

The Univox you have, from what I read, is pretty old (1970s), all-tube, and about 100W. As far as I can tell, you're using something with a vintage voice that won't do for modern tones like the ones you're looking for. You may be asking for too much with your current rig.
The Peavey isn't going to help you cut through... not because of how it sounds, but more importantly, because it's only 80W RMS - it won't get loud enough. A 15" combo speaker isn't going to give you the clarity you're seeking at high volumes with only 80W behind it. A pedal isn't going to fix that. Unless you plan on mic'ing your combo and adding PA support, a pedal won't help at this point.
An overdrive pedal can make it sound "bigger", but without a good amp and cabinets, you're going to be pretty shy on headroom and volume, and with that, your clarity and punch go out the window.

Also, a lot of the big, big Tool-type bass sounds involved multiple amps or multiple recording channels.
If you just want a pedal to play around with though, try an Aphex Exciter. |

You can dial in a fat bottom tone or a cutting treble tone and all spaces in between.

besides that, do you love your current tone and eq already? if you do ... try Fulltone Fat-Boost 2 really cool boost and lo/hi switches ..
