Deep Impact market shifting?

Sign in to disble this ad
I see that an Akai Deep Impact just went for $330 on ebay. I still wouldn't pay that much, but it's a far cry from what we have seen in the recent past. Stuff that makes you go "Hmmm..."

They go up and down like a yoyo. It just depends who is bidding at the time. I recently saw one go for over $1000, the next was down around $400 and then back up to over $1000 on the next and now here is another that sold for $330. They are only worth what someone wants to pay at the time.

You guys are right, of course. But for the last year or two, I've seen most sellers on ebay and Talkbass ask for AND GET 450-500 easily. 330 is the lowest I've seen since I started observing the "market".

People ARE broke. So, it's a great time to buy ... if you're not broke.

How much can Muse be thanked for that?

Or Phish.... Sad part is, Chris uses his for 4 songs, maybe 6 total, over 5 albums. And to be honest, most times, people have no idea about the song in the first place. No one has confirmed Time is Running Out, and I think I showed that Hysteria is not part of this pedal. Here is your Deep Impact List for Muse:

1: Apocolypse Please
2: Space Dementia
3: Plug In Baby (Unconfirmed)
4: Time Is Running Out (Unconfirmed)
5: I Belong To You

Honestly, It is a great time to watch out for these, though I can say honestly the trend will shift again.

Wow, I wish I could find one at that price. They will definitely go back up, but I am liking that they are down right now.

IIRC TIRO was recorded with:
clean bass
bass with fuzz effect
Then blended with a synth

While I can understand what has been said, or heard, I promise you... I have the settings to turn the 1st preset into a dead on accurate TIRO sound.

I already nailed Hysteria without the Deep Impact, and I can nail this tone too. All the rest are verified. TIRO was a guess, but the tone was so close, it has to be the sound.

As for the bass fuzz effect, the only fuzz he had at the time was the Big Muff. And the Muff cannot cope that tone.

Why Akai don't just reissue this pedal is beyond me. They could easily sell them new for around $250 and make a killing, and please a lot of bassists at the same time.

We, as bassists are coming to know of it through a bass forum. In the general context, the demand is probably still fairly small.

Then again, I agree that if they were to reissue it, it'd probably generate interest and they could profit from it. How much is the question, I think.

Yeah, good point. But if they're going for ridiculous prices that a lot of people worldwide are prepared to pay for, surely there are a lot more who are missing out or simply won't buy due to inflated price. And once a fair few bassists get hold of them, others are going to quiz on them pretty quickly and demand would increase, yeah?

isn't there anything out there that can cope or cover the Deep Impact territories?

really nothing in the Chunk Systems, Subdecay or WMD product lines can satisfy the avid effects lover as much as this elusive mystical SB1 beast??

Nope, not really. It has programmed patches, so it is unique in the same way the Markbass or Bass Synth Wah etc are. Some things might be similar to certain patches in a way, but at the end of the day, if you want the Deep Impact patches and the same options for tweaking them, then you need the DI.

How would you compare it to the BMS, considering you have both?

I just can't see myself getting and SB1 anytime soon, but the BMS is pretty easy to get.

I pretty much kick myself daily for not grabbing one of these when Musicians Friend was blowing them out for $99.
