Deep Impact rant

I just saw one of these on Ebay for $810. Reputable seller; 12 bids so far. People will actually pay that!

When is it going to end?! Akai needs to reissue this thing, and MF needs to have another $99 sale.

I didn't say that it could or would happen - only that it should.

yeah, with as much as these things are selling for on the used market, I'm amazed akai hasn't made a reissue. Of course, they "won't be as good as the original you know, but still, i'd love to have one on my board.

Yep. Akai would make a killing. I'd love to see it reissued with a smaller footprint too.

Maybe it's an Akai worker slowly selling a backstock of hundreds of them

HOLY COW..!?!?!?! $810, are they crazy?

I picked up mine & my UB1 for under $200 each many years ago (early 2000s). I'll admit the SB1 is whoop-azz, when I can get the delicate little @#$!*& to work properly, but these people are out of their minds.

Then again, at those prices, I'm still not planning on selling mine anytime soon. I haven't found any other pedal that has the azz that this pedal has, so I plan on it staying in my arsenal until something better comes along. The UB1 might be another story...

BRT is probably right about it being an Akai employee...

My Deep Impact:

This thing was in absolute mint condition. Original packaging, optional footswitch, zero scratches and looking as brand new as it could. I paid $475 plus shipping a few months ago. As much as I still dig mine, $810 is not a reasonable price and if mine would actually go for that or more I'd probably sell it tomorrow.

They can be unreliable and a bit of a PIA. Don't really miss mine as much as the Bass Murf.

Oooh, I just noticed the seller describes it as "as used by MUSE"... Hmmm, gonna have to see if I can get a useable "Hysteria" sound with it in the signal chain somehow...

$400 is not so bad, when you consider what it is you can do with it. It is invaluble to my board anymore. I don't know what I did without it.

$800??? Far too much, but still a great pedal.

I thought mine that sold last week for £410 was the highest I had seen...this is just absurd. Even more absurd given that they do break down. Soon after I bought mine 5 years back, the main processor failed. By some bizarre chance my local solder monkey had one and replaced it. It's a big risk, one of the reasons I sold...

It looks like you guys haven't yet understood how the used market works.
Model discontinued for lack of sales, fanbois start buying it because Flea Mc Wolfen plays one and OMG it's the **** I need one.
If Akai was to re-issue de Deep Impact, vintage fanbois would be jumping high and low claiming that it doesn't sound half as good as the original.
N00bs would listen to vintage fanbois and buy the old ones from them for an arm and leg.
At which point luddite fanbois would then declare that this effect sucks and is not worth owning anymore.
Repeat ad libitum.

Just the fact that you recognize the system works this way is a testament to the fact that this is not exactly how it will go down. Akai is not going to charge nearly so much as it's been going for on the bay, and reasonable people will see that and act accordingly.
