For those of you that have and use the Deep Impact, do you use any other synth effects on your board or anywhere else in your signal chain?

It has some drawbacks, for example you're stuck with one sound (vs. 9 programmable settings on the DI) and it's not true bypass, but I get more usuable sounds for what I'm after, whereas I always found the DI sounding cheesy.

...yeah, I know. It's not helpful.

So when in use, the G5 is 99% of the time, the first effect in the chain.
After that rarely comes a programmable BDDI and always a Demeter Compulator.

I found it to have some more nouances than the SYB-3 whose presets sounded much more similar one another.

It was cool, and complicated, but didn't really fit my sound, just an expensive toy I didn't need. I am interested in the New Boss synth, but heard negative reviews. |

the DI is the essential "keyboard/synth" bass pedal. the G5 and EHX are more dark and each have their own special blend of crazy/unique sounds.
i could really only seeing have 2 on the same board if you REALLY make a lot of noise or just like using a bunch of different effects. i don't think i would ever use the EHX and G5 on the same board (cause they're kinda similar), but i could definately see the DI and one of them. |

I've had my DI for a while, but put it away when I got a BSW. Now that I'm looking to get back into a nice pedal set-up, and have given away the BSW, I'm wondering if it would be too much to look for another BSW, or maybe the EHX, since it has always interested me, though I've never gotten my hands on one.

You're missing out!
+1 to Mark's post - he's the reason why we both had all three on our boards for a while, and his summary's pretty accurate, IMO.

And for future reference make sure you have a DI I use the Sansamp because the tape echo really kills a lot of attack, which is to be expected but the DI helps. ) and now you've gotten me wanting all sorta of Synth pedals, and what's funny is I can't think of a single song/band that uses one besides Chris Wolstenholm from Muse. |

what kinda sounds are you looking for out of the other synth (BSW or other)? Also, what other pedals are going to be on the board?
If you have a nice mix of pedals you might be able to cop some of the non-DI synthy tones with a mixture of other pedals. |

DrQ-BassBalls-Boss ODB3-Akai UniBass & Digitech BP-8. I play a bass guitar and a digital keyboard thru that chain and get some pretty cool tones. |

Mark, I don't really know what I'm going to set-up on this upcoming board yet; I need to pull all my pedals out and do some playing around. This should be fun! I must admit, though, the Subdecay Noisebox is interesting, and I definitely think I need reevaluate my fuzz/OD/dist options.

They are totally different synths.
