Neither. Play one of each, decide which YOU like better.

Yup, lots of good delay pedals in both corners.

Get a Line 6 pedal. Then you've got really solid modelling of analogue and tape delays with all the digital benefits of tap tempo and expression controllable feedback / delay time / repeat tone. Plus all the usual digital tricks like reverse, ping-pong, etc.

There's a good reason why every guitarist you ever see has a big green DL-4 on his board. But these days it makes more sense to look at their M series effects which have all the DL-4 effects onboard plus a ton (literally) of others.

Remember... If it costs alot, then it is good

For me, I like the Malekko Ekko 616. I also like the T Rex pedals.

+1000 to trying out as much as possible to see what fits for YOUR sound. Analog is generally warmer and has shorter delay times with some warble in there. Digital has longer times, more control but can sound too clean but that might be what you want. I love me some delay and here is what I have that covers everything nicely.

Digital: Boss DD-7 with a Railhead Effects Tap Tempo: this pedal has over 6 seconds of very clean digi-delay, emulator of the old Boss DM-2 Analog Delay (I've A-B'd them and it's 99% close), a modulated delay that can get very analoguey and a reverse mode for cool sounds.

Analog (digital): Strymon El Capistan with Railhead Effects Fav Switch: it's a digital pedal but it has pretty much every tape delay machine ever made. It has controls for just about everything and more: time, repeats (amazing oscillation FYI), mix, tape age, tape crinkle, spring reverb, bias, magnetic hi-end, tap tempo, and a few more.

I've tried:
Boss RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay
EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai
Roland RE-20 Space Echo
Line 6: Echo Park, DL-4 and M9
Roland RE-201
VFE Echo Ohce
MXR Carbon Copy
EHX Memory Toy, Boy and Deluxe Boy
Subdecay Echo-Box
