Boss DD-7.

Not the mostest boutiquest, but does the simple digital delay thing perfectly fine, stereo panning effects stuff, and has a good analogue delay simulation. Also has modulated (chorus) delay and tap tempo. And it has a looping function. You can use an expression pedal to control some parameters.

Plus it's a Boss so it's as reliable as a hammer, and affordable...

I have no direct experience with them other than using my bass synth wah exclusively to get an octave type sound but...

I'm pretty sure the MXR ovtave deluxe has a dry mix knob and gets great reviews. I love my MXR carbon copy so much I won't even hesitate to get the MXR octave when that time comes.

Agreed. Just picked one up myself, and I'm really impressed with the variety of options, as well as the simplicity of it. Easily gets as complicated or simple as you want a delay. Highly recommended.

I have two delays on my board: MXR Carbon Copy analog delay, and DeltaLabs DD-1 digital delay. Neither is overly expensive (the DD-1 is downright cheap) and both are quite good at their respective forms of delay.

And now starts the flood of people posting their personal favorite delay, from $99 boss pedals to $300 boutiques. And they all think that the pedal they list is the best.

there are a few types of delay so you should think which features are you interested in.
digital delay is usually clean and transparent, simple "cold" repeats.
analog delay is "warm", muddy repeats.
there can be modulation on repeats, chorus or vibrato.
reverse delay is another popular thing.

i have analog delay with modulation (Subdecay Echobox) which is very good for solo parts with distortion and can make very crazy sounds as well. i also going to get digital delay (TC Nova Repeater) for clean delay sound and reverse delay.

You'll have to start by deciding by what you want the repeats to sound like, as Shish mentioned above, and you'll also have to decide on which features are important to you in a pedal.

Do you need Tap Tempo? True Bypass? Trailing repeats that echo shortly after the pedal is bypassed? Use websites like proguitarshop.com, pedalgeek.com, etc. to window shop different pedals.

Delay pedals aren't usually specific to bass or guitar. All you have to worry about is the signal strength of your bass being strong enough to create distorted repeats with some analog delay pedals.

That's the ONLY reason why I sold my MP DBD. I like both analog and digital delays, but to avoid the distortion I'm going digital. Thinking of getting either a Japanese Boss DD-3 or a TC Nova Delay.
