Is a delay pedal useful for bass?

I'm in the process of getting my pedal board together and am looking at having just the essential effects on the board. Just wondering what your opinions are regarding the usefulness of a digital delay pedal for bass. I have never needed one but others seem to swear by one. Thanks.

Delay can do a number of things. Loops, slapback, the Pink Floyd "chopper style", echo, chorus, just to name a few. A lot of these techniques need to be thought out ahead of time for a given song. I've never used one with a band but enjoy noodling with a nice long delay, say 8 or more seconds.

If you're asking...you don't need it.

I'd use the the delay I will eventually get for feedback and noise breaks.

I kinda agree with this. If you don't listen to music and hear delayed bass and think "this is a pretty cool sound" or something, then either go try a boss delay at guitar center or forget about it. Or try one with other pedals, I sometimes think pedals are boring when just using them alone.

IME delay on bass isn't necessary, but it is lots of fun and can sound very cool. but if your board is for just the essentials then its probably not needed
