Demeter Compulator and Dunlop DC Brick

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm about to buy a Demeter Compulator but I've read about people having trouble to power it from a Dunlop DC Brick, which is the one I have on my pedalboard.
Not sure about this but, aparently, for some people the DC Brick stop working when pluging in the Compulator, maybe due to having some pedals with positive earth electronics and the new one is negative earth.

Anyone out there using the Compulator at the same time that other pedals with a Dunlop DC Brick? Have you had any porblems?
What's the right cable to connect it?

I'd really appreciate all your help guys.

Thanks!

I have no experience with the Brick, but the Compulator used normal 9V DC adaptors. It does have the mini-plug connector, not a regular Boss style one.

I now power my pedalboard with a PP2, so I'm not sure if the Brick comes with that cable.

I had mine set up with a One Spot. It worked but made noise. It didn't make noise with a battery or a separate wall wart.

Mini jacks are hopeless, this is what has probably kept me from buying one of these myself.

It's tip positive, sleeve ground. An adapter or cable wired "straight through" will put cause a boss style adapter (tip negative) to short out. You need a cable of the correct polarity.

Thumbs up

Hey, I am using Dunlop DC brick (with the blue LED, new version I think) under my PT Junior, and with the tip positive mini jack (came with the brick) connected to the Demeter opto Compulator and works nicely and smoothly, never had any issue! Check out my posts, you can find out how it looks together on my board. Hope this helped out!

Thanks Ebelow.

Just one more question: Do you mean you are using the 18v cables that came with the DC Brick? Just asking because the standard 9v included with the Dunlop have different ends.

I'm using a 1-Spot with a daisy chain and mini-tip converter. No problems.

My DC brick came with two! mini jack positive pin end cable that goes to the Demeter (from the DCB 9volts output) and of course with 7 normal end cable and the 3 normal end for the 18Volt outputs, if you do not have these with the DCB, than get the small pack 1spot cables and it hase the same, -LuvMusic uses that without probs, I have those too! And with the 1spot adapter and mini tip converter-cable I had the same good result as well.

+1 use a polarity switcher cable(believe comes with the brick) with a 9V out and you should be good.

Right, I think I've found them. I've got two that go from straight mini jack to angle mini jack... are those the one you mean?

Thanks!

Sounds like the correct adapters. Just check your documentation or manufacturer web site to make sure you're using the tip with the correct polarity. The tips should be labled or color coded so you can tell.

I have already received the Compulator and no problems so far using it with the DC Brick, it works perfectly!

Now, another question about the Trim Pot:

Does anyone know what's the factory setting position for this pot?

Just asking because I've bought it second hand and it's all the way up.

When I got mine brand new, it was`about half way so in the middle. I had lotta overload with my active MM Stingray5, I turned fully down (to the left).

Irrelevant - set it for your bass and playing style. It's just a pre-gain setting.

Take the battery out when you use it with a One Spot. Virtually no noise after that.
