Demeter OptoCompulator - phatness

Hello all,

I was reading some posts this morning while drinking my morning coffee and suddenly had a thought...

Some of you say that the Demeter Compulator makes for a 'warm and ph/fat' tone. So, is that to say it does tubey warmth/fatness?

I honestly don't really know how I would use a compressor, but if it does tube warmth in a small, compact case it's definitely a winner in comparison to the DHA VT1 that I previously decided on for the tube warmth.

I've got a Demeter Compulator. Wouldn't describe it as a "tube-y warmth" in the least. It's a very transparent compressor through, but you can crank the compression for some really good squishy thump.

Squishy thump... Do you have any other words for it? Squishy thump doesn't really register with me.

The fatness of the compulator is not like tube fatness. I think tube fatness often includes an increase of midrange frequencies, a little loss of treble, and a certain rounding off of the sound. To my ear the compulator didn't really change my bass's tone but rather it's attack and volume envelope, if that means anything to you. Look for Bongo's compressor links for some more articulate description of what compression does. If you want tube fatness try a tube pre or a sansamp.

its difficult to explain what the compulator does to my tone. i wish that you could hear it from my amp when i turn it off and on. its just makes my sadowsky tone (great tone by the way) into something really beautiful. fat and clear. i just can't play without it.
