After many many months of trying to find clips of this pedal with no luck, I decided to just buy it and do them myself. I'm glad I did. The Electric Brown is a nice pedal with a pretty cheap price tag - $95.
Electric Brown
The Electric Brown is extremely well built. I like to use Grygrx "shake test" when I get a new pedal. This thing passed with flying colors. I haven't opened her up yet to check out the insides. I suspect it's very similar to Grygrx's gut shots of the Year of the Rat at
www.bassfuzz.com.
The picture below is from Devi's website. My pedal has the same graphics but with white knobs. I think I like the black knobs better, but oh well.
The pedal is just like the other $95 pedals from Devi Ever - two knobs "Volume" and "Control." Devi's website says there is "lots of gain on tap" with the volume knob. This is definitely true. I had to keep the volume fairly low for the clips to avoid clipping. The "Control" knob controls the intensity and character of the overdrive. The pedal can get pretty nasty with the "Control" knob cranked.
The pedal is sensitive to your playing style. The softer you play, the lighter the drive; the harder you play, the heavier the drive. I try to show you this in the clips. For each one (except the clean clip), I play the riff three times. The first is with a very light touch on the strings. The second is with a heavier touch and represents my usual playing style. The third is really digging in.
I had one problem with the pedal. If I turn the "Control" knob all the way down or all the way up, I pick up radio stations. I'm not sure why this is the case.
I would say the pedal does a good job of delivering slight overdrive to almost full on distortion. I haven't tried it yet with my band. My only experience is plugging it directly into the computer. I will update this when I get the chance to use it with my rig. I really like this pedal, and you can't beat the $95 price tag.
I used my passive Jazz bass for the clips. I left the "Volume" knob in the same position for all the clips - approximately 9 o'clock. The clips are named after the "Control" setting. So, "Control at 3" means the control knob is set at 3 o'clock. Duh!!
Let me know if you have any trouble with the clips, or have any questions. Enjoy.
