Thumbs up Devi Ever Hyperion Review

Big muff killer? I think the supercollider definitely takes that spot ms. devi but this is still a nice fuzz sound. Sounds almost like the Cherry pop but not as aggressive.

Still loving the extra goodies Devi throws in and mine was made only a couple of weeks ago...June 23 2009. Always cool seeing when a pedal was made...

The sound is pretty muffish but it sounds like the angry uncle of the muff. It also has that Devi glitchy decay which is pretty sweet. I wonder what kind of transistors do that...did we ever look to see if Devi's stuff is RoHS compliant? Her secret must be Uranium transistors!!!

Btw, the hyperion sounds a bit different with a active bass..

Anyways, here's the sounds-

With the Rick mic'd...man this beat gets old...

With the Rick DI'd...promise this one isn't as long!

Crack it open and take a look ... Devi's not a black-gooper, so you should be able to get a part number off the trannies.

Also, Devi posted the schematics for the soda meiser and torn's peaker over on ilovefuzz, and a lot of her other pedals are based off those two. But the hyperion is one of the few that isn't. If I remember correctly, the hyperion is a dark boost and a 33/Silver Crank together

Probably Silicon transistors biased in correctly(on purpose). Starving transistors of voltage does some wild stuff

Even though this is hyped as a muff killer, I very much doubt the circuit is anything like a muff. I've had a look at freestompboxes.org, her designs are pretty unique, although many are similar and have quirks like putting transistors in the wrong way round and stuff!

Thanks for the clips.
I didn't check out the DI clip, but I was wondering if
you used the same setting on the pedal and the amp
on the mic clips?
The active clip sounds a lot more alive!

yep, pretty much minimum control, 9oc, 12oc, 3oc, maxed. Same settings on amp.

Yeah, the jazz sounded better.

But cool review. Sounds pretty neat.

Really, that's interesting. None of my devis have been. She's walked people through modding her pedals before. Besides that, I thought I'd read her bust on other builders for doing that. Hrmm..

Probably 2n2222A or MPSA 13 transistors.

the black goop is probably just electricians tape.

the Hype responds very well to a starve circuit, as you lower the voltage, it smooths out gets darker and thicker.

i just sold my hyperion.. overall, i'd steer clear of devi's with an active bass.

the actives seemed to squash the low end a bit, and as it was, with a passive bass this fuzz just made the cut for low end friendly for me.. or maybe it diddnt, being that i ended up selling it.

its a nice fuzz though. if i had a clean blend i prob wouldve kept it.

I'm pretty sure Devi's Volume and Control knobs do the same thing on every pedal that has that configuration. The volume is an output pot and the control is an input pot. The control knob will change how much of the signal will enter the circuit and the volume will do the same exiting the circuit.
