DHA VT1 MK3 sound samples

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi:

Just thought that some sound samples of a DHA VT1 MK3 bass tube-preamp, OD pedal would be of some interest, given the fact that I didn’t have the chance to find many of them in the Internet. This one was bought second hand in the classifieds section of this very forum.

Some pics:

It is the medium range unit: more bells and whistles tan the VT1 Standard, and less than an EQ Paradrive section, which also features play-along line in, earphones output, 3 band EQ section with semi-parametric mids and DI output, but the sound is basically the same (I already owned one of the mentioned EQ Paradrive units)

The clip consists of 6 takes of a basic (and sloppily played) groove):

Soundclip Context:

Allparts Fender Jazz bass , alder -rosewood, assembled by myself , Hoegland Brothers’ passive electronics. (CTS pots, Orange Drop capacitor, Sprague jack socket, cloth wire coating) D'Addario xl170 845-100 strings just boken in. Both pickups fully engaged and passive tone rolled halfway off, Finger played, in between pickups

Directly recorded into an Edirol UA-5 (usb) audio interface, into an HP laptop. No additional EQ, campresson or effect whatsoever

This is the link to the cilp:

First take is the bass by itself. The DHA unit starts working from take 2 onwards, in a nearly transparent way at first (gain pot at 10, so it can go even cleaner), still you can already start to appreciate some tube warmth. I keep on turning gain up in successive takes until the last one, in which gain is fully cranked. Just using the tube od settings, not the solid state option which it also has.

Hope this helps

Nope!
...i don't know why the graphics on this specific one said so, but I used the one from my other unit for the purpose of this test. I'm afraid all current vt.1 units run at 12 Volts.
By the way...I'm from Asturias...in Spain!

Ostia, asturiano! Ja ja. El clip te ha quedado de puta madre. ¿Crees que vale la pena pagar 40 libras más que por el modelo básico? Bueno, vuelvo al inglés.

Do you think it´s worth the extra 40 pounds for the extra features?

Salu2, maño!

The basic sound should be in the basic unit. If you like the sound in those clips and you don't care for the solid state add-ons, I guess you could do with the VT-1 standard. Just a supposition as I have not tried it "in person".

You might damage them at 13v, so 12V is max and recommended

As stated before, the unit is on its way to be serviced by Dave Hall himself (bought it second hand and pots need to be changed), so it's not available for a second recording right now. Still I think that the transistor OD niche is very vell covered by other units (EBS multidrive, VT Bass etc) and that tube warmth and OD is the real thing of this pedal.
