DI signal - in ear monitoring?

Sign in to disble this ad
hello,

does anybody know if it's possible to get the bass DI signal into your ears via earhpones?

i'm thinking of going 'amp-less' and just use a DI box.
furthermore, i'd like to get my sound and only my sound into my ears but still sending the DI the the FOH if necessary.

how can i go about it?

thanks!

edit: something has just popped into my head:

DI 1/4 out -> cheap mic pre -> wireless transmitter -> wireless receiver - > earphones

would that work?

thanks!

Sure, that and several other methods will work. FWIW threads about DI's and IEM's are supposed to go in "Misc.". But yeah, a DI signal is just a balanced audio signal. You can do anything you want with it.

Yes, it will work. I can recommend you the Hartke VXL DI box. One Input and three outputs.

1) Link
2) Effected
3) XLR Pre/post

Additionaly you can tailor your sound with Bass, Treble, Shape and Overdrive, but you don't need to. Cheap and good.

Hiya

I usually go ampless in our gigs, as my amp blew a while ago and I am still saving up for a new one.
What I have is a headphone splitter on the PA, with a long cable going over to me and the singer.
We each have our own volume knobs on the splitter, and we can adjust the mix on the PA. Not sure how, because the drummer sorts all that stuff out.

But I can say I find it much easier than standing near an amp trying to listen to what you are playing.
This way, I can always hear myself thumping in my left ear.
My timing has improved vastly as a result.

Your setup will work, give it a shot and see if you like it.

Make sure you use 2way inear phones. They have a way better low end response

best way to combat that is to put 2 audience mics (mics on the edge of the stage pointed towards the audience) to get the crowd noise, and run them through your ears (and everyone else's).
