Differences between classic Fulltone Bass Drive and MOSFET edition

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi to all and sorry for my poor english...

May you tell me the differences between the old model of Fulltone Bass Drive and the new MOSFET?

What do you prefer? What is best for you?

Thank you so much!

There are multiple "old versions" of the Bassdrive. The difference between the newest "old" version and the MOSFET is that the MOSFET has a switch that can swap the old diode clipping circuit for MOSFET clipping.

Thanks for the reply. How do I tell the difference between which old version I have?

Do you have a switch in the middle with the Classic, Flat Mid, and Comp Cut settings, or do you have a pull pot for Comp Cut only? If you've only got the Comp Cut pull pot I strongly recommend checking out a newer version with the flat mid setting, which sounds much better to me than the typical tubescreamer mid hump of the classic mode.

Thanks for the reply!
So, there are 3 versions:
- with the CompCut push/pull only
- with the 3-positions switch in the middle
- new MOSFET

It's right?

As far as I know, there are those three versions. You could email and ask Mike Fuller yourself if you want to know if he's made any other modifications to his circuit along the way.

there are also a couple of other differences in the PCB and led placement (for the last models) and also the new pot mount inside, I must say the construction on these is top notch!

No ones answered the OP's question yet. has anyone compared the Mosfet version to the older versions?

To my ears, the Bassdrive in Mosfet mode sounds a little rawer, with more bottom end. The frequency response may be a little flatter, if that makes any sense. That's with both FM and Vintage modes.

In standard mode, it sounds exactly the same as earlier versions. I've had all three!

Hope that helps,

Lyle
