Differences between Sansamp Boxes

Sign in to disble this ad
Is there a major difference in tone between the

Sansamp Bass Driver Programmable: http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sa...ssdriverp.html

and

Sansamp Character Series VT Bass Deluxe: http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sa...terseries.html

I am very happy with my BDDI, but I hear great things about the VT's. I understand that there are different functions that are featured between both products... but I am really thinking about tone. If there is a HUGE difference, I may invest in the little one channel VT pedal.

I use the Sansamp to warm up the tone on my solid state amps as well as use it as a direct box.

Any experience with this?

The only difference I've heard around here is that the BDDI provides a darker tone, whereas the VT sounds a bit brighter. That's all I can say, but the new VT deluxe pedals look pretty sweet.

The difference is not so much in tone as it is in purpose.

The VT Bass is kind of a set-it-and-forget-it pedal. You dial in the emulation of an Ampeg tube amp that makes you happy, and you just leave it on and run you axe through the pedal all the time (that's how I use mine... it just makes my Markbass combo come alive).

The programmable driver is for those who want to have a variety of amps at their feet during a gig. You can set up one preset as super-clean SVT, one as flip-top, and one as super-distorted tube sound a la Kings X or whatever. Then you can switch between them in real time.

Personally, I don't have a need for that variety of amp sounds. I just want one solid, predictable tone. So for me the VT Bass works great. I actually have it stashed behind my amp when I play on stage, and just have my Boost RVB and EBS UniChorus at my feet. These I turn on and off, but the VT Bass stays on all the time, so no need to stomp it!

he's talking about the vt bass deluxe, which isn't out yet. it has 6 programmable presets, same as the bddi deluxe.

to my ears, the vt beats the bddi in every way. of course, i'm biased because the vt is all about ampeg. the bddi gets sorta kinda there but not really.

My assumption here (and I am probably wrong) is that the VT and VT deluxe are based on the same circuit. I didn't realize the VT deluxe was not out yet. Looking further into this I don't think the VT deluxe is something I need. I don't need six presets, and I don't need to hook up two separate basses.

However, would a VT and a BDDI together on the same pedal board be overkill? Is that a waste of money? I guess I will have to find a VT and A/B it to be sure.

BTW, I was trying to make the pedal board smaller... not add to it! Seems like the effects bug has bit me again.
