Digital or Analogue Octave?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello there guys

I am looking to get a kind of 'sub bass' effect like Pendulum get on some of their tracks. I understand that their bassist runs through a lot of software and the like, but I am just looking for something close. Ideally, I would like something where there is an option to blend in a dry signal, but also go without it. Is this possible?

I also intend to get a fuzz to run after to get the dirty octave sound. Probably an IE Oxide or a Fuzzrocious Grey Stache +.

Can anybody lend some words of wisdom here?

if you're just looking for octave down, either option will probably work. I've had my eye on the foxrox octron 2 lately myself... analog, does oct down and up, each is individually selectable and mixable, and it has its own effects loop.

but for the synthy software stuff digital is probably the way to go, a boss octaver should work just fine

Without any examples (links please?) of what you are looking for sound wise I'm going to go out on a limb and say analog and specifically the OC-2

I'm afraid I can't do links at the moment as I am currently not able to access a computer But I can name tracks:

Propane Nightmares (when the song drops at about 1:06)
The Other Side (around 1:26)
Another Planet Live at Brixton (around 1:50)

Those give a kind of idea of the sound I am looking for. It sounds like a pretty straight forward octave below, with none of the dry signal mixed in, but I wanted to ask here in case I was mistaken.

The Tempest shows off the kind of fuzz I'm looking for at 1:30. Am I correct it saying that a gated fuzz is required?

I'll try and post some links tomorrow when I can use my keyboard players computer

Right, Links to examples:

Around 1:15 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2KC1...eature=related
Around 0:43 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zENtEumtyBI
Around 1:54 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMJ6NXDsGoE
Around 1:53 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Hp9...eature=related
Around 1:05 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UINhE8L1yXg

I know that there is a filter used on some of these, but that is not the effect I am looking for. I just want the sub octave, preferably with the option to blend in the original signal AND have it completely removed.

Thank you, and sorry for the delay
