| | | | Digital Reverb.. on BASS?

Hi guys I just had a few questions for anyone who used digital reverb on bass. First I was reading an article on dredg's bass player using boss RV5 and I was wondering if any of you have any experience with that. I'm looking to tighten up my christmas list this year and I was wondering if the tone is as greatly effected as the use of reverb with guitar?
I'd also like to know where you guys use reverb in songs..
Thanks. |

Dozens of post rock bassists (Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai, Godspeed You!, etc) have used RV-3's and RV-2's in their set ups. I myself use my RV-3 in a post hardcore band for more melodic moments, to fill space (its a three piece), etc. One of my favorite effects.

Only now I'm looking heavily into the Dr. Scientist Radical Red Reverberator. Its a bit wackier than my RV-3, about as many settings (only without delay here), plus I like the idea of having a volume control on tap, so at a moment of ambiance I can throw that on after my delay to thicken things up further while boosting my signal. That would be cool...

| | | | i myself use an RV5 for delay and reverb. its not at all a bad unit, really. all i have to say is, to get an idea what reverb can do for a bass player, try and listen to a little bit of jacos playing on the CD with the brian melvin trio. it adds so much character, and changes so little about the actual sound of your instrument...but dont be an idiot and leave it on all the time..like any effect, its about turning it on and off to make changes to your sound when needed.

It's also fun to play the highest string on your bass (G or C) with a downstroke using your thumb and let the other strings resonate as they will... instant spring reverb!
