| | | | My review of the Digitech Bass Synth:
Meh.
Haven't used the others.
The Digitech does sound cool, don't get me wrong. I just find it a bit hard to control at times, and the sound seems a bit... "cold." For lack of better term.
I have one in my chain, but I'm constantly fighting it to make it sound right.

Bassballs is auto-wah. That's IT. |

But your general point is right - they're TOO different to compare. They're not even in the same class of effects, despite what few similarities they might have.

| | | | I really like my micro Q-tron. I got that after trying both the bass balls and q-tron. Takes a bit of playing with the settings to get the right sound but it sounds pretty good. I didn't like the fuzz/overdrive part of the bass balls. |

| | | | I just played with my Digitech BSW...
I retract my last statement. It did well this time. Cool synth distortions and decent envelope filter... especially with the sub...

I HATE the BSW for various reasons -- the short of it being the envelope was weak, the synths sounded hilarious and the octaver (while good tracking) had a tone I disliked. The Bassballs never really did anything for me. All of the Micro Q-trons I've tried malfunctioned in some way or another, most required the drive knob to be very high before getting a decent envelope, then giving a huge volume boost when it finally did kick in.
Get an old (1st-3rd gen) DOD FX25. They are amazing. |

I had a Mini Q-Tron, which is basically the same thing, but in a casing twice the size. I have never understood the unending praise heaped upon the BSW. I thought it sounded corny when I've played it. I think the Bassballs sounds AWEsome, but its a very unique filter. Definitely not a "standard" filter |

(im leaning twards the synth wah, because of the extra features) | ive had both and they both suck - just save for the new q-tron+ or the EHX bass micro synth, you wont be dissappointed there |
