Digitech Bass Synth Wah Alternative?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have had the Digitech Bass Synth Wah for a few weeks now and really find the octave function very useful. So useful in fact that I was wondering if there was any alternative in a more straight forward octave pedal. Having so many options on the Digitech amounts to very little in effect, , when using anything but the control dial, which only controls the octave volume. Is there any octaver that gives more versatility in the octave without losing function to other effects?

And what is an atoz?

sure, but they'll cost you more than the BSW. The MXR Bass Octaver and the Aguilar Octabass both have a more manipulatable octave sound.

What about the EHX POG?

The POG is a great pedal (the Micro POG is as well) but it sounds very, very different to the BSW.

If you're happy with the sound of the BSW's octaver, I say stick with it! if you want to be able to use the other functions of the pedal at the same time, buy another one! it'd probably be cheaper than buying a dedicated octaver. :P

Atoz all began with this picture. (2nd post down)

(but that wasn't the first time it was posted)

How is the POG different?
What I want is more control over the octave, not the other
functions. Is there a pedal that controls more then just the volume of the octave?

Haha, those are some funny pictures. Can't believe it was made into a smiley. Thanks for showing me.

I'd suggest the OC-2. In addition to whats been mentioned you could check out the EHX Octave Multiplexer, that's supposed to be pretty cool.

My (current) choice

I have the MXR Bass Octave, Boss OC-2 and Boss OC-3. Right now, my choice is the MXR because it has a more "natural analog" sound. If you're looking for more of a "synth bass" sound, I recommend the OC-2 or OC-3. IME, the OC-3 tracks better than the OC-2.

I've come to the conclusion that the Digitech Bass Synth Wah is a very under rated pedal. As an octaver it's excellent!

Agreed! My Bass Synth Wah is very useful, especially as an octaver. The voicing of the synth can be very conversational as well when tweaking the range.
Sorry for not updating, I am content with my Digitech and have moved past the idea of replacing the pedal. Thank you all for your suggestions.
After researching the possibilities in answer to my request above I have heard the differences in various octave pedals, not only from there controls but also in their flat response.
If you are reading this to make a similar decision, please note that not all octaver pedals sound same. Sorry for stating the obvious.

The BSW is the one pedal on my board (apart from the Boss LS2, which isn't an effect) I can see having 2 of (bad english ?). I use it mostly as an octaver, but there are other settings that can be of interest.... it worked rather well as a cheapo sequencer (with a Boss BF3).
