Lightbulb Digitech Bass Synth Wah - MOD + schematics

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there

Recently I bought Digitech Bass Synth Wah and I'm thinking about modding it up a bit. Here's the deal:

It has two seperate outputs - OUT 1 (Normal Dry) and OUT 2 (Effect), so we can use two seperate amps. When we use the effect in chain as we would use it normally, we use OUT 1 and don't worry about that stuff. But when we use two outputs, things get a little bit complicated. Unfortunately for me and my needs, the product manual says that "Out 2 is muted when the effect is bypassed [signal is present only in OUT 1]. But I don't want to get it muted. When I use two outputs, I want OUT 1 DRY to be ALWAYS DRY, and OUT 2 EFFECT to be WET/DRY, depending on the position of the on/off switch, not WET/MUTED.

Is that possible? Is that the case of changing the position of one or two cables inside, that simple or something more complex? The pedal is digital I think, does that complicate that mod a lot?

I don't have the schematics and I couldn't find any, so it's hard to tell. If someone has the schematics, please send me one.

Cheers!

IMO you're better off using a signal splitter before the BSW -- it's usually better to not mod a pedal, especially when there's an easier route that will achieve the same results.

Yeah, I know that I could use a splitter, but if I STILL want to mod the pedal, would that be possible?

Splitting before the pedal will do exactly what you want. Why bothering with a mod?

I doubt such a mod would be something your normal DIY peep would be able to pull off. It's a digital pedal with a bypass circuit installed somewhere in the pcb and build with smd components; Such a mod would most likely cost you more time and money than making a splitter yourself.

Like the other guys said, splitting the signal before the pedal is easier, quicker and probably cheaper. Plus you then have a splitter to use with other effects, if so desired.

OK guys, thanks for all the anwsers. You are probably right with the splitter. I got my eyes on cheap used Whirlwind A/B A+B box that would do the trick, gonna do some research about this pedal and probably get one.

Thanks a lot

Unless you can get your hands on a schematic, it's going to be very hard to tell just how the circuitry is done. It has to switch in the jack to Out 1 (afterall-- the effect out doesn't mute when running mono), so maybe its as simple as cutting a trace.

It would be very hard to trace out, though. They don't design those pedals thinking people might mod them.

I am actually thinking of doing somewhat of a mod for my same digitech pedal. but only to try to eliminate the clipping noises.
I'm not sure if it is clipping. but when i have it set for fuzzy synth sound (type 3, sens 0, control 0, range 0~4) i get a clip that sounds like a laser.
what do you think?

OP Don't give up! If you can find somebody willing to help then awesome. Or try to educate yourself enough on components and other circuit jimbomumbo to do it yourself.

True this may be much more effort than is necessary but why not put effort into it? I understand your desire to mod it because it would save you pedalboard space and maybe money, as I see it anyway, and maybe it'll give you the necessary knowledge to mod other pedals in the future.

That noise is just how the effect works. All I could recommend to you as an x-owner would be to just keep the sensitivity at 0 and try to play softly as not to activate it.
