Digitech Bass Whammy making strange digital noise when rocking the treadle..

Sign in to disble this ad
Oh no..
After spending 300 Euros on this bad boy I hope the joy isn't over that soon!

I've had it for about a week, and today I noticed that it makes some unpleasant digital noise when rocking for and backwards the pedal. It isn't loud, but noticeable. Most of all it is noticeable in the 1 oct. up setting...

Oh please.. how I hope, that it isn't fried yet..

Maybe someone could tell me if he had the same experience with his Bass Whammy.

1000 thanks!

greetings

I hear a lot of different white noises when rocking the treadle on mine. Pretty much inaudible when actually playing notes and such though.

Something that sounds like alien space ships taking off?

Thanks for your reply!

Yess, man. Exactly! Like alien space ships...

When rocking faster and playing, it isn't that audible, but when I let a note sustain and then slowly rock up and down I can hear it..

Is the noise a strange digital pitch shifting? That's normal

Yeah Im not very experienced with a Bass Whammy, having only used one once or twice, but IME they still wig out a bit like the regular whammy does. Is it a tracking issue? Does it do the same thing all the time or is it ok sometimes?

Can you record a sample of it?

Record it and we can tell you for sure if it's normal... but it sounds pretty normal to me from your description.

The Whammy (in general) is not known for perfection - its true charm is in its flaws.

It was some kind of wobbly digital pitch shifting, not an tracking issue, but it was kinda worrying cause it was quite loud..

I don't know why, but today I don't hear anything of that noise. Seems like everything is alright.

I'm assured now that I heard that it does have its freak outs sometimes...

Thanks for your input, guys!

I've got a Zoom box that also makes some 'strange digital noise' in the background.
Hey....it's a whammy! It's supposed to sound strange!

and here another one with distortion. this time playing some random riffing.

at the beginning I demonstrate the noises that it makes on itself when rocking the pedal.

That's normal. You need to play with the volume knob on the BW to find the sweet spot. Right before that red light flickers. You also want the Bass whammy first in the chain.

Thank you, Chronicle.

I will try fiddling with the volume knob a little, but I think it is already set as you described. It is second in my chain, so I will try that.

Are you referring to the high pitched squeeking sound? I had a WH-4 and never had that problem...

The reason why it makes that noise is probably because it is being overdriven if you hit the strings too hard as well.

Also, there could be some poor electric conditions going on, but Chronicle is likely correct. I never had that problem with mine.
