Hi There,
I had some pretty high hopes for the BNX3 when it came out 2002? 2004?. So unfortunately it really didn't work out for me. I tried several units and they all had this annoying hiss or hum not matter what setting I used. Also the recorder media was just about of date when the the BNX3 was released. (Smartcard). the sound quality wasn't too bad if you could get over the hiss/hum but I enjoyed Line 6's amp and effects modeling better. Although you can mix two different kind of amps if you like. It has some quirky /unique amps modeled too. Trace Elliot Commando, Hartke 1400 I think. I will say the included software worked perfectly on my PC. Give it a try. if the unit doesn't hum and you can get it for a decent price, I wouldn't go more then $150-$175 personally. It really depends on what you will use it for. Digitech has pretty good customer service too. I think they have a flat $50 service/repair fee.
Hope this Helps,
Brent

Digitech BNX3 Bass Workstation

Thanks BrentSimons....good info.....I can actually get the unit for about $90 so I think I'll give it a try but check out the hiss/hum noise you indicated first. I just started on bass (more seriously the past 2 months) but played guitar many years ago. The BNX3 seems like it will be useful (even more so later) for basic recording and practice purposes and who knows, as I progress I am anticipating its usefulness will grow on me. The research I've done indicates a selling price of upwards to $300 dollars so I thought it a decent deal for $90....time will tell. Exactly how it will help my practicing is something I am yet not sure of.....right now trying to build up my knowledge (eg. fretboard; chords; theory etc).....thanks again for your response.

I'll second every word that Brent said. It's a great deal for $90. If nothing else, it has a CD-in and a rudimentary drum machine for practicing. I used it for years, just for basic stuff on stage - compression, tuner, and a chorus here and there, and it performed great. Built like a tank, too. Took a few unfortunate drops, and never hiccuped.

I never got the media part to work (and I'm a computer guy by trade). Ordered some memory for it, and it worked a time or two, then quit recognizing it. Granted, could be because of the above drops.

But yes, $90, jump on it.
