Digitech BP8 users cheat sheets

1 Attachment(s)
So I created & have been using some cheat sheets for the BP8 for a while now and shared it with a couple of members and they found them helpful so here you go, enjoy and get creative.

The Digitech BP8 is one of the early multieffect processors for bass, way before modelling and current technology, it offered bassist a studio quality array of effects that was fully programmable including a full featured compressor, tube preamp, 4 band parametric EQ, 3 distinct Wahs, Bass Whammy functions, noise gate, tuner, notch filter, full selection of modulation effects, interesting envelope filters, reverbs and delays. It is still heavily in use by many players despite it's age because it was so well designed and executed.

I bought a BP8 years ago and still have it. I don't really like effects on bass but at the time, I thought it would be fun to try something different. It has some great sounds but there are also a lot of settings that I do not think anyone would use. For the money, it was a great unit and I still use it for a couple of songs.

Hey BassBrad,

Care to tell what your settings are on the user-created effects on the BP8?

...Or is that classified information?

Mine died recently :( Hopefully it's just the power supply.

Could anyone who has one and has a multimeter check the power supply to see whether there's a voltage difference between any of the individual pins, or just between any pin and the sleeve?

I made an Access database for it years ago to record all the parameters. Would there be any interest in me finding it?

I used to own one a long time ago but just picked one up here off the forums.

It's in transit and I am looking fwd to getting it soon

Anyone ever change the tube out in it? Wondering if I should put a fresh tube in it when it arrives

bassbrad 04-14-2011 01:18 AM

I switched mine out with a NOS JAN 12ax7 but really didn't notice any difference so went back to the stock tube.

Hey Bassbrad, as MisterFabulous said, care to share your user preset patches? Also, your cheat sheet is very much appreciated.

Also, I am about to start using this thing in a band situation whereas in the past it's always been used for practice through headphones and mostly a toy. I've had the thing since the day it came out, been through a couple of power supplies, and a bottle or two of contact cleaner. It's been solid and trusty. I am going to use it now in lieu of stomp boxes as I feel that using the expression pedal to control modulation parameters suits me better for my current application than bending over and turning nobs on stomp boxes whilst playing. I think that this is where it truly excels.

The bp-8 is a quality processor and I've used a few since. You'd pay as much or even more for a compressor that is comparable to what the bp-8 is capable of. Also, this thing has built into it the same capabilities as the sought after digitech bass whammy which regularly sells for more than $700. Since I'm going to be playing out with it, I'll be buying a second one as a back-up, although I doubt this thing will fail on me.

Anyone else use it live? Experiences?

You're welcome and enjoy the BP8.

Thanks also to Joerg_L......
Man this thing is fun, the tube in there is nice....The EQ and Preamp are both very nice!

JerBass1 12-11-2011 01:26 PM

Thanks

I had pretty much given up on the BP8 bought a while back and had crappy results but with this patch library I'm going back to drawing board thanks again:hyper:

I have had the bp8 since it came out. It still works just fine.
I just ordered a boss gt-10b. I hope it's is way easier than the bp8 to fine tune.
On the bp8 if I didn't need to program it for a while i would forget the stuff I learned previously on tweaking it.

Joerg_L 12-19-2011 06:27 AM

the boss gt-10b has no valve in it and is much more expensive.
i bought the bp8 at ebay for about 6 months ago only for 40 Euro (Germany)
I think it is not a fair comparison of these two devices.
:rollno:

I manage my settings with an Excel spreadsheet.

Best regards,
Joerg

stryfox 12-19-2011 07:24 AM

I am not really trying to make it a bp8 vs gt10b.
I'm just pointing out that I ordered it as a replacement for my bp8.
I hope I am not disappointed.

CopperheadLXXIX 12-19-2011 08:13 AM

The GT-10B is probably by far the most tweakable MFX bass unit out there, but to my ears, it sounds sterile and lifeless. I returned it after having it less than a month. I much prefer the BP8. Of course, IMO, YMMV, etc.
