It keeps the low end well and is more harmonic. It is always at max gain, but if you set the bass to max, mids to 1/2 to 3/4 and treble to 1/4 to 1/2 it has a pretty amazing sound. A few others here use it for bass. Putting a boss odb-3 into it produces some crazy results. |

I should be getting a blender in the next couple of days and will post if it really changes the sound much blended. It is at max gain all the time so you may get some feedback from it when not hitting a note. It retains lows while keeping the mids and highs in your signal. I don't know if digitech changed this pedal from the previous DOD version which I'm basing my review on. I use a (passive) G&L 2500 tribute with TI Jazz Flats into this into a VT into a power amp. |

Buuuut... some people (like ME) dig the noise thing. So it can be nice in that regards, but you wont get much definition. Still though, my ODB-3 is my noise pedal of choice for the more shoegaze stuff i do.

My Boss Metal Zone and a DOD Grunge are my "sounds crappy on it's own, but can make sweet sweet noise" pedals.
That said though it's not a BAD pedal. And, honestly i am basing my opinion off of maybe 30 minutes of testing at the local music shop. FWIW, that day of testing led me to pick up the Digitech Bass Driver, which i DO think is a good pedal. It just had more definition (to my ears anyway). I think if i saw it somewhere used for $40 i would snag it. It did the noisy feedback well enough where it'd be worth it.

On the Metal Zone I cut the highs, boost the lows, and give it a mid boost around 4k. Makes for a great de-tuned Korn guitar sound, including the chunky palm muted rhythms. I don't use it often right now though.
I'm trying to sell the Grunge and Death Metal where the Metal Zone is permanently on my board. The good news is the Grunge and DM pedals are usually very cheap on the used market. |

I just got the milkshake blender (thanks JimmyRocket!!) and it sounds absolutely fantastic at 50- 60% blend. IMO perhaps better than the XXL B and the boss hm-2. If you can find a DOD 86B Death Metal pedal used get it! |

All of the pedals have plenty of bass available. What I didn't like about the DM was that the gain was 100% all the time. It was a bit much gain, but more importantly it REALLY jacked the noise floor way up there. With the Metal Zone you get more MID control which is important on the bass IMO and controllable gain. The Grunge was a little too muddy for me, not as crisp and biting for distortion use. I do prefer the physical pedal construction of the DOD and Digitech pedals over BOSS. But it's all what sounds good to your ears and works in the application you're looking to fill. All three pedals should be readily available used for CHEAP on your local Craigslist or eBay. |
