| | | | Digitech guitar whammy for bass guitar?
Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone on Talkbassforum! i'm a new user from Denmark, and i would like to ask a question.
I'm a big TOOL fan, and i love to play songs by TOOL. But i know that Justin uses a Digitech Bass Whammy for songs like Lateralus, and Schism. But unfortunately, the Digitech Bass Whammy is discontinued very annoying. So i would like to know, how does the guitar whammy sound on bass guitar? I'm thinking about buying one, so i'll be happy, if i could get some information about the pedal. If someone own that whammy, tell me your opinion please!!
Any reply will be appreciated!! |

To the OP: I owned a Whammy 4 for almost a year with little complaint. It sounds fine for the most part. And regardless of what most guitar store owners will tell you it wont damage your amp, nor will your bass damage the pedal. I only sold it because I didn't use it much.
You wont, however, be able to recreate the 5th-> Oct Up mode that JC is so fond of (I'm not a Tool fan, so I don't know which songs specifically). That was a mode limited to the Bass Whammy and the WhammyWah pedal, I do believe.

But being almost the same price as a Bass Wammy (and a whole lot bigger) it's not something to put on your pedalboard. |

| | | A big thank you to the guys who got some good answers! I've just tried out the whammy, and i thought it sound quite nice, but the 5th/1oct is missing, and JC uses it for the intro on Vicarious. But i'll just find another pedal, that got that setting (can't remember wich pedal). I can live without that setting.
Again, thank you guys! |

It is sad that some (myself included) may not ask a question as they once would for fear of the "do a search" magpies flying around.

Again, thank you guys! | The only other pedals that will be able to recreate that 5thup/OctUp mode are:
Boss PS-3 (discontinued, needs separate exp pedal)
Eventide Pitchfactor (costs 400-500 dollars, needs separate exp pedal)
Digitech XP-100 Whammy/Wah (discontinued)
I went with the last one personally |

If you still can't find what you're looking for: ask away without fear!

If you still can't find what you're looking for: ask away without fear! | I somewhat agree, but some are not as search savvy as others, and think back, if your first question thread was met with the multiple snarky "do a search" answers that might be the last and we lose a potential future TB friend and contributor.
And if I have to start every question thread with "don't blast me I did a search" I still will be reluctant to ask.
Sorry for the soapbox derail

IMO those two alone are worth buying one. |

I bet the varsity guys on the football team would correct you if you started running the ball in the opposite direction, too. If someone does something incorrectly, there is nothing wrong with telling them that there is a proper way of going about it. I personally think that video is an entertaining way of learning. It's how I did, after all.

Well, I don't hate them, but I find it the most irritating thing of all irritating things on Talkbass. And so do a lot of people who trash TB on other sites. By far, it's the biggest complaint people have about TB. If you've got nothing to say, don't say anything. Answering questions with "do a search" and nothing else is just being jerky. It isn't really your call to be moderating unless you're a moderator, and besides, new threads are what keeps a site like this going. So what if it's been asked before? Either answer the question or don't, but if anyone ever says "do a search" to me when I ask a question, you can expect a quite unfriendly reply in return.

I think you should try SX basses, instead inquiring about a bass whammy. You can get 4 essex at the price of one whammy. You won't need anything else if you have one, let alone four, as in everything else is irrelevant.

Either answer the question or don't, but if anyone ever says "do a search" to me when I ask a question, you can expect a quite unfriendly reply in return. | Fresh people simply don't know about "search" function. My first post was something like: I'm looking for tube like OD. Bongo listed few pedals for me and said to use search in future. I think it's not matter of being unfriendly. Medicine isn't always sweet, but it's clever to take it.
But I do agree that saying only "do a serch" with nothing else isn't the most elegant way. Mea culpa. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
