Digitech JAMMAN - the finer points on sound quality

Ok, I've been searching around TB for a thread discussing exactly my ailment, but haven't found it. Please let me know if this is redundant.

I've found some threads talking about good vs. bad sound quality with this pedal, but no real discussion about it. I'm getting HORRIBLE quality reproduction from the unit at louder volume levels. I'm playing a 5 string active bass on the sucker.

Have people been successful using it in an FX loop? or just right between the bass and the amp? ...is there something else i'm not thinking of? Maybe using the XLR out??? HELP!!!

There is no XLR out. That is an input, with a separate volume control. Turn the volume down on your bass, and/or also turn it down at the input. The active bass is overdriving the Jamman. The SQ on mine has been perfect for over a year.

There is no reason why you couldn't use it in a loop, try it, see what sounds best.

I have no problems with noise or signal degradation. Sounds to me like you're clipping.

I have problems with volume loss as well as some high-frequency roll-off. Its pretty annoying really... If I'm not using the thing to practice or write music, I have it taken out of my signal chain. If I bring it up to the volume it would be if I went straight from my effects to the amp, it clips, but if I turn it down, I can hear some high-end loss... its not very stage or recording worthy IMO. I like it for practicing and writing, but I would probably not take it on stage with me... I have tried it in the effects loop as well... same problem. I think what I would like is a way for my signal to go to the jamman, then out into another amp or PA, BUT only a looping or recorded signal will go out to the other amp or PA. So my sound comes from one amp, then whatever is being played over goes to another amp.

Either way, sound quality is poor IMO.

If he's clipping it running his bass straight into it, odds are that running it in his effects loop will only make the problem worse.

bassplayer_479, yeah that is an xlr input. i knew that

there is an LCD light by the input that is supposed to indicate when you are clipping, correct? that light has never indicated, not even once, that i was clipping the unit. however, ill try turning down my bass/input at the JAMMAN when i get home tonight.

Sir Edward V, I've thought of a similar scenario too. Do you know of any loopers that have two outputs, one of the loop, one of input?

I'll also try the FX loop just to see. But I think you're right, bassman1185.

I've recently traded my Jamman for the Boss RC20XL and I'm glad I did. The clipping issue was the least of my problems. I got around that by putting my punch factory in front of it. Sound wise they they both sound great but I just couldn't trust the Jamman. The first one I had just died on me and the second freaked out at a gig and the third was OK but I'd lost all confidence in it. You can say what you like about Boss stuff but you know it won't let you down. The Jamman is a nice idea that needs a rethink IMO.
