--------------------------------------
The rhythmic fretwork of the bass guitarist is almost always an essential element in modern music, but when it comes to effects processors, most pedals seem to head for lead guitar stardom. DigiTech is about to treat the rich and versatile electric bass sound to a new multi-effects unit that puts hundreds of sounds, effects, amplifiers and speaker cabinets at a bass player's disposal.

DigiTech has announced a December release for the newest member of its bass effects processor family – the BP355 Bass Multi-Effects Pedal. Hidden away within its rugged die-cast metal housing is DigiTech's AudioDNA 2 processor that offers players a choice of 20 amps, 17 speaker cabinets and over 70 effects, including various distortion pedals, flangers, phasers, envelope filters, compressors, delays and pitch shifters.

There's a 30-sound Tone Library and a choice of 3-band or 4-band semi-parametric EQ. Players control the sonic action via three footswitches that enable them to choose which effect or sound is required, and an onboard expression pedal caters for extra parameter control (such as volume, pitch and modulation). The unit offers a choice of 70 factory presets and 70 user setups, and users can even play along to their own phrasing thanks to a 20 second loop. A built-in tuner helps keep the proceedings note perfect.

For solitary rehearsal, there's 60 CD-quality drum patterns and an audio input for feeding in tunes from an external media player. Players can hook up the device to a computer or laptop via the built-in USB port and record, edit or manipulate to their heart's content using the included Cubase LE5 and DigiTech X-Edit software.

The in and outs are catered for with a 6.4mm (0.25-inch) input jack and 6.4mm and XLR stereo outputs. There's an Amp/Mixer switch that enables onward connection to an amplifier or PA system and a 3.5mm (0.13-inch) headphone jack for some privacy.

Digitech has unveiled their latest bass multi-effects pedal, the BP355. Featuring the same AudioDNA 2 processor as its relatives, the BP355 dishes out modeling of 20 amps, 17 speaker cabs, and more than 70 effects, ranging from distortion to envelope filters with nearly everything in between. It also includes 70 factory and 70 user presets, a Tone Library of 30 sounds and an Effects Library with 30 effects. The unit also allows for a choice between a 3 and 4-band semi –parametric EQ for tonal flexibility.

Digitech designed the pedal to be versatile for all aspects of playing. For practice, the BP355 includes 60-CD quality drum patterns, a 1/8-inch input for portable audio players, and a 20-second looper. An amp/mixer switch is included to enable connection to either an amp or a PA system during performance, and the package includes Cubase LE5 recording software and Digitech’s X-Edit editing software for studio work, all accessible through a USB port.

The Digitech BP355 Bass Multi-Effects Pedal will be available this month with a suggested retail price of $309.95 and a MAP of $199.95. For more details, visit Digitech on the web.

I remember seeing this multi-effects processor on the sweet water website a few weeks ago and honestly I'm kinda curious about it. If it's ever released, I would like to try it out. I have used digitech effects in the past and I enjoyed using them.

I have the guitar version of this revision. The presets are kind of the type a 12 year old would use.. has tons of potential when spending time with it.

There's the manual. Unless I'm missing something (just took a quick once over of the manual) there is very little control over the individual effects parameters, the effect chain, or the amp model parameters. The I/O configuration is great, but I like more control over my effects chain. Based on that quick look (without comparing sounds) I'd still prefer a B2.1u over the BP355. IMO.

Pretty low cost unit considering the XLRs, looper and pitchbender..its been forever since digitech had any worthy bass offerings.

It seems very well thought. Controls are user friendly, easily tweakable, it does 2 voice harmony, whammy, LFO, looper, computer edition, audio interface and more.
Really this is all good. Now, I never was impressed with the tone of Digitech multis. I hope this one will be good.

I hope it sounds good..it sure has the bells and whistles. I know a digitech rep here in town. I am going to contact him and see if I can get ahold of one to demo, beings that stores around here wont carry anything for bass effects.

The triggered phasers and flangers and Boss OC-2 modeler, and analog delay modelers make me curious. I definitely won't be purchasing this but I'm definitely trying it out in the store just out of curiosity when I see it.

Has anyone actually used it yet?

What I'm wondering is if the effect models are exactly the same as the guitar version, or if they are revoiced for bass.

For guitar, I had the RP350, and now have the RP500. Most of the effects are quite good for guitar, but less so for bass.

Right now, I need an octave pedal for a song or 2, so for the time being I'm using the OC-2 model from the RP500 for rehearsals. Didn't think that it tracked that well (jumps to the octave above on the G string around the 6th fret). Then, I went to a store to try the Boss OC-3, and it was no better....

Anyways, any real world experience would be appreciated.

I have never played thru any bass effects at all, but this looks it might be kinda fun. Especially for the price.

One thing I will say is that I have a Digitech GNX-1 for guitar that I bought about 10 years ago. I've used it at home for recording and for my needs I've always had good luck with it. You've got to work with it, but it's there.
