well ive been looking into getting a whammy for my bass. i know they dont make bass whammys anymore and there going for like $500 on ebay (im sorry but i dont want to pay that much) so i was just thinking about getting the standard digitech whammy. my question what is the main difference tone wise between the two? is it just a loss of low end or are there any major tone differences (because low end isnt a problem, ill just use a bass eq)
thanks,

I have a Whammy IV and I love it! I've never had the opportunity to demo a bass whammy, and really I have no desire to. Other than the 5th/6th up setting, and the 5th up/Octave Up setting...that Justin Chancellor uses for Tool. I think the IV is a great pedal and unless you are getting it just to cover Tool songs, then go with the current model...that is unless you have $500-600 to burn. |

The only thing the IV doesn't have is the 5th/Oct that the Bass Whammy has, and the Bass Whammy tracks the lower notes better.
The Whammy IV works perfectly fine on bass.

That'd be too much random hissing for me XD |

| | | | The EHX pog is so much better, the tracking on the digitech whammy is quite spotty & you can forgot about playing chords . Most of the settings are worthless for bass and make it sound like a robot is dying or something. I had the digitech whammy 4 and sold it. I was not impressed

The POG just offers squealing-goat tones on top of your clean signal. |

ehhh, I gotta disagree with this. I will admit that I originally
got a bass whammy to do Tool covers. But I have to say that I became so fond of 5th/Oct up harmony mode, that I was using it all over the place. It was the the most musical mode in the pedal, and I found myself bringing it into a lot of other songs. Especially when you're soloing. The fact that they left this mode off of all the other whammys (other than the XP100) is a crime. To me, all of those other modes on the whammy, like 3rd/4th and 4th/7th and 2nd/3rd are basically useless. To me, they could trim a lot of those modes out and include 5th/Oct. Quote:

If you go find my bass whammy clip in the wiki, I throw in some chords to demonstrate that |

The note starts on the 5th and goes to the octave rather starting on the root and going to the octave?

keep in mind this is harmony, so its like a chord with root note and the 5th, then a chord with the root note and the oct up. You probably knew that but yeah. |

I walked out with the micro pog. I felt it was more musical somehow and the tracking seemed better too... |
