Digitech Whammy Response

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

Recently I've been gettin into the octave up/down whammy effect on my Boss ME-50B. I would now like to get a Digitech Whammy IV. Well I think its IV. Its the one in this website: http://www.digitech.com/products/pedals/whammy.php

Just wondering if there is a delayed response when this effect is active? My Boss does this. Not buy much but it's noticable.

Also, not really related to this but in Schism by Tool, does Justin use a 5th up in the bridge? Whats that other effect in there? I know theres a small delay but theres a weird distortion thing goin on.

Cheers,

Tom

If you plan to play Schism, the Whammy IV does not have the setting to play this song. You would need a now discontinued bass whammy or the eventide pitchfactor to get the +5/+1 octave setting used on this song. If you are serious about a whammy, you should seriously look into the Eventide Pitchfactor. It is the whammy to beat all whammy's on top of 9 other great effects.

Schism uses the oct/up setting. There are some Tool songs that use the 5th up/oct up setting but not this song.

Bridge=Whammy oct/up--->GT-2 distortion--->Boss Delay

just had a look at the virtual demo. looks VERY cool.
though, unfortunatly i cant spend that much atm. I think ill stick with the digitech. Might look at gettin the Pitchfactor in the future.

So, anyone know the response of the Digitech Whammy IV??

mine seems to respond fine.

here is the isolated bass from schism, that should help your Tool query.

It really does have some latency issues..sometimes it is not problem, or even bonus, but sometimes it is problem. It never takes chords, it tracks very bad if you play too fast and it always glitches when you have some effects before whammy. But some of those glitches is great bonus when you need to make some noise, and sound itself is very warm and analog, so it still is great unit. But, if you want clean shifts, and JC mode, Pitchfactor + expression pedal is your path

You can, and I have.

If you're looking for a pedal to instantly net you Justin's tone, though, you're SOL.

That will do fine. You'll also need some distortion and delay.

+1 to toolmybass, as always, great advice!

I use a Boss ME 20B and a Digitech Whammy IV in my tool trib.
It may be budget, but it gets the job done, and i get paid at the end of the night!

He's wrong because Schism just uses a 1 oct up pitch shift, which the Whammy IV has. The setting he's thinking of, which is a 5th up/oct up harmony mode, is used on other songs, but not Schism.

i dont really understand why digitech discontinued the bass whammy..... i feel like if they bring it back it will sell massively even if they only produce like a certain amount per year or something im sure they will make more profit

+1.
This is right.
Whammy IV (regular -> oct setting) ---> distortion ----> delay

The folks over at digitech don't think so, otherwise it would already be on the market.
