dilemma: Wireless w/ pedals & rack effects

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
It sounds silly, but how does everyone using rack equipment use effects pedals in the setup with a wireless?

Right now I have everything in a rack, In-ears, wireless unit, preamp with a VF-1 in the effects loop. The wireless goes to the preamp with a 1' cord, so I can leave everything assembled..just take the covers off the rack and go.
A pretty clean setup.

However, there are a few pedals I would like to use too.
Namely that damn new Jamman Stereo...but I digress.

So do I string a long cable out of the rack from the wireless to the pedal-another cable back to rack into the input of the preamp? Sounds messy.

Is there anyone that does both...floor effects And rack mounted...especially with a wireless?

As always...I appreciate the thoughts.

I had a custom cable made for when I had my wireless racked with pedals on the floor. Then for a long time I didn't use any pedals at all. Now I'm going to go back to using them but I plan on mounting my wireless on my pedal board..... unless someone here tells me that would be a bad idea.

You shouldn't have any significant signal loss running a couple of long-ish cables from your rack to your pedals, since the output of your wireless would probably be a low-impendance signal anway, and two cables on the stage aren't exactly going to cause too big of a fuss, I would think.

When you are already going 'this far' - a rack, iem, wireless - there is only one logical answer. You install shelves to rack mount your effects and route them through a midi switcher. Switchblade on down are your options.

Cheap way, a multi-core loom cable such as:

This can carry signal both way and power too if required.

Expensive way, rack everything and use an external midi switcher.

what the heck is a loom cord ? I had no idea something like this was made...much better that a couple of instrument cables.

But...do patch cords plug in to the female ends? How does the power part work if there is a walwart?

That seems cool...but I can't see how this functions...and a midi switcher sounds 100x more complex than a loom!

Help!

Very cool tho. How does it work?

Right, the loom a cable on that site has changed from what it used to be. They used to be four core, male to male. God only knows what they changed it to female. However, you could still adapt the current one if you're handy with a soldering iron! But as you say, you can always just plug in patch cables. I'm sure other companies make such items too. Make google your friend!

Anyway, each lead is colour-coded so you can easily identify what's going where at each end. The power cables in it use boss style plugs/sockets at each end. The idea is, is that you can keep all your power adaptors and wall warts at the back of the stage with your amp out of sight and mind, and run the power from them down the loom to your pedal board, along with your audio signal. Much tidier and safer.

When I was using mine with a wireless, I had the wireless receiver sitting on top of my amp, took the output into the loom, up to my pedalboard (along with power), then back to my amp.

PedalSnake

www.pedalsnake.com. I have one and swear by it. I have a rack and external pedals, with a PedalSnake connecting everything. No noise!
