Hey you need to ask a more specific question. Sound clips would be appreciated (for what part of the spectrum you're aiming for).

I dunno if this is your cup-o-tea or what but I know guitarists and bassists alike really dig the Catalinbread SFT.

I bought my Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive for bass, but since it's basically a tubescreamer with a clean knob added, it's great for guitar as well. I'm very interested in trying out the Pork Loin too.

Some (not all, but some) of Devi Ever's pedals work well for both bass and guitar.

For a nice warm overdriven sound / clean boost.. I say Durham Sex Drive. Excellent for bass or guitar.

I'm using an Xotic BB preamp, the orange one. I like it.

I use a Boss mega distortion, but you could probably do better with your budget of <$150.

Pork Loin, Swollen Pickle. I recently had the opportunity to try out a guitar player's Swollen Pickle (lol that sounds so wrong) and I was really digging it. I may have to pick one up to replace my modified DOD 250 clone in some scenarios.

Supercolliders are $175 & well worth it for both tonal ranges. Also, Ibanez just released a bass tubescreamer. It might work well on both as well.

Can't really go wrong w a Russian Big Muff, if you're truly wanting fuzz!

An fea labs dual-band distortion pedal works really good on guitar and bass. it sounds totally awesome on bass. it's a shame that it's expensive. here's the link to this pedal.

+1 on the boss md-2 mega distortion pedal. this pedal can give you a pretty cool grinding sound. they have sound samples of this pedal on bass on the boss website.

Try a Sans-Amp Tri-AC. You can dial in very cool bass sounds, plus bass+dirt, or you can have Triple Rectifier glory for those funny looking things with the little strings.
