Dirty Boost?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a dirty boost.

I'm not trying to drive an amp or anything like that. I'm just trying to find a very light drive. To be more specific, something that will add an edge, but is much cleaner than what most of you would consider OD. It should be even lighter than a light OD, basically just as the title says, a dirty boost.

I've tried the search function and google (as to not waste your time), but if there's a thread I've missed, a link would be appreciated.

Separate vol and gain knobs are necessities so I can acquire unity gain (used as a stand alone pedal). An eq would be fantastic (although I'm assuming that would be rare in a boost pedal). And, obviously, I would like to retain as much bass as possible.

So far I've looked at the Devi Ever Punch Love/0525 (sounds nice on guitar, anyone tried it on bass?), Tonefactor Creampie (seems too hard to find, and I was not impressed with any sound clips I've heard), Barber LTD SR or Silver (would this be too much dirt for my needs?), and the Bad Monkey (used to have one, and I liked the lighter gain side, but was too much treble and highs broke up before lows, Humphrey's worth it? Again, too much gain?).

Thanks for reading and any help!

Actually one of the older versions of the Fulltone Fat-Boost was well regarded as a slightly dirty boost from what I've seen and read. Never got the chance to try one out myself though (I'm a heavier dirt kind of guy).

Mellowtone Hi Five Plus

I have one of these on order.

I bought it because I wanted something that would stay clean, but break up a little as I dig in. I won't know what the low end is like until I get it, but the builder says it should be ok.

Here's a pic:

Oh, and everytime you step on it you hi five a kitten .

Actually a lot of folks were pretty enthusiastic about the nano muff a couple weeks back. I never like the single setting on the double muff but who am I to judge?

I'd imagine a simple FET preamp with some gain modifications could be a good "dirty" boost, if the OP is into DIY.

I've never done any DIY, and I dont have the tools. I'm gonna have to stick with pre-made pedals.

I've never heard of this. Sounds intriguing. Could you let me know how it sounds? Either here or PM? Thanks.

I'm not trying to drive an amp, just use a stand alone pedal. So, a separate volume knob is key. I should've added this to the original post.

I'd suggest a Fulltone Mosfet BassDrive, Devi Ever Dark Boost, or a Devi Ever Karaoke Party.

Blueberry...

Every sound clip I have heard of this wonderful box sound like what you are looking for... With exception to direct boost...

I am sure the volume knob can do that though.
