Passive? Radial JDI.
Solid state active? Radial J48, JDV, Countryman, Sadowsky Outboard
Tube? Aguilar, Demeter, Groove Tubes, Summit, lots of options
Vintage? Neve channel strip
Effected? SansAmp, MXR
Built in to a bass pre? The Navigator is the bomb, but there are many many others |

Or, what Pickles said. Let us know exactly what equipment you're working with, and what features or qualities you hope the DI will provide, and we'll recommend one. |

Two questions:
1. Anyone using the Sadowsky notice it to be a bit "hissy"?
2. Who makes the "Navigator"?
Thanks... |

Thanks... | Never had a hiss problem with the sadowsky, but I have not used it as a DI in the studio. I have tracked using it as a preamp (then into my amp, using the amp's DI), and that was fine.
The Navigator is Eden's bass preamp. Its a two space monster, but sounds great and has some really cool DI features that I'm just now beginning to understand. |

Radial Engineering makes some good quality products loaded with the cream of the crop transformer on the market, Jensen.
Radial gear is relatively expensive, but the quality is top all the way. |

Sounds good, but to get the final bass we ran the recorded sound into a amp and cab and miked that. So I couldn't really comment on live aps. |

I've got a Sad pre-di. I've used it through an amp heaps of times and to a PA once (very quietly at my primary school) nothin but beautiful sound from it - and I love its simplicity.
I've just recieved your radial tonebone bassbone and will try it out tonight, it will be nice to compare the two.
I can also recomend the sansamp (bass driver or programmable) if you want that 'coloured tube emulation' sound. |
