Sign in to disble this ad
Got any sugguestions?
Sleep's Dopesmoker and anything by Sunn 0))) are the kinda sounds I'm after.

I'm not interested in buying a new amp since my setup is fine for everything else at the moment.

A muff based fuzz for sure. The Eathbound Audio Supercollider seems to get a lot of love around here as a great heavy and doomy fuzz, yet still cuts through due to the mids it can ad back in. The Way Huge Swollen Pickle is another favorite. My favorite is the Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B. The clean blend does add a good amount of definition.

Supercollider for sure - Supercollider Beast, even better:

Also, I just got the Catalinbread SFT on the strength of this video:

You can get that sound with the pedal straight into a DI and it sounds great. I can also get a similar sound but with more low end and bite by running a booster into a VT Bass. I never liked the high gain sounds of the VT Bass, it fizzes and farts out as you turn the gain up... until I discovered how much it likes being fed a volume boost!

Also checkout the Mountainking Megalith:

Exactly. Not even a Blue Berry can duplicate that sound. Well, I suppose you could plug one into 10 power amps, but at that point really, just get a ****in' tube head.

True. This type of heavy, extreme doom clearly requires short scale.

:fact: At the Colorado GTG we had earlier this year, the short scale mustang with the 15 year old strings played through the 70's SVT had the ballsiest and best tone out of any of the basses there. :fact:

I believe it, yo. Big, thumpy, and full of feedback? I love shortscale hollowbodies! Still kicking myself for not buying a '67 Guild Starfire bass for $700 a few years ago.

Oh man I forgot Attila sang with them. I got to see Mayhem last spring and he was spellbinding. It was incredible to hear him sing the De Mysteriis suff.

Mmh....feedback...
