What I should say is. When putting together a rig, either guitar or bass, there are a lot of issues that can develop. Things like impedence missmatches, poor gain staging, or any combination of a dozen other things. And these issues might not show up until BAM! one certain piece of gear is added to the chain. Unfortunately, a lot of people will automatically assume that the problem is with that last addition and not trouble shoot any further, become dissapointed, pull the piece and never know that it could possibly been a simple fix. Unfortunately, there is also a large portion of that group who will then take every chance to trash talk said piece of gear. I've seen multiple posts from the same individual on many websites trash talking the same piece of gear and sometimes the company in general. So back to my initial reaction... I do take online reviews with a grain of salt. Remember, most individuals are far less likely to take the time and add a positive review for a piece that does it's job then they are to write a scathing one when they feel let down.

Sorry... Rant off.
You make a fair point. To be honest, I didn't think your initial post was THAT harsh, but your elaboration really solidifies your point.

I need to remember to take them with a grain of salt. I used to really struggle with that. I would be scared away or enthralled with something before even trying it out. I found out quickly that the "idea" of something CAN be a far cry from the "actual". If that makes any sense...

I think I'll be checking out the GI100. For the $$, seems like the best option.

Thanks

Maybe I'll give them an email as well and see if they can update with any info.
I picked up one of the ADA GCS-2 guitar cabinet simulators the other day.
Initial test seem pretty promising with bass IMO.
They suggest not plugging your instrument directly into it because the input is not optimized for a guitar pickup, but rather for low impedance signals up to line level. So I used my bass (Alembic Epic 4) into my pedalboard (with a MXR bass fuzz deluxe and a Empress multidrive) then into the ADA then into my audio interface > computer > nearfield monitors. I tried with and without overdrive or fuzz.

Sounded good on either the vintage or modern settings (the first switch) with vintage rolling off a little more highs and modern sounding more neutral/open.

On the 12-inch/10-inch switch (the second switch) I didn't like the 10-inch setting at all with bass, it sounded a little boxy. But the 12-inch setting sounded pretty darn good.

On the sealed/open back (the third switch) either could work with bass in my opinion but I preferred the sealed setting because it retained a little more lows and sounded more natural to me.

The edge/center knob works really well for fine tuning the sound to more or less high/low end roll off.
Turning it all the way to the edge side (counterclockwise) seemed to make it too bassy while turning it all the way
(clockwise) took out too much of the lows. For me I think there's a happy medium somewhere in between.

Overall it did seem to roll off the lows slightly compared to bypassed as I think any speaker sim will.
But it's nothing drastic.

It made the overdrive/fuzz sounds miles better compared to without it going direct into my audio interface and studio monitors.
I still need to experiment with it more.
I'll report back again when I do.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I emailed them the other day and didn't hear anything back either, but this was so much more informative than anything they would've replied with. I'll be curious to hear how you feel about it with some more time with it.
