distortion/fuzz

Sign in to disble this ad
hey im new here and i love to play tool. ive been looking around for a good distortion/fuzz pedal that would have a nice tool sort of tone. i was looking at the electro-harmonix metal muff, then i saw that the big muff and heard that has a really good fuzz to it. but then i saw that there are two versions and two different reviews for what looks like the same pedal? sorry im sort of confused as to whats the difference between the two versions (because one review says its loses way to much low end then another review says it only loses a little bit). which one do yall think is better for bass, the metal muff or the big muff?

thanks,
Brian

Welcome

Well brian, I will be the first person to say, welcome to talkbass! I have been kicking it around here for a while and probably have bought way too much gear off of stuff I have read on this website.

I will say though that the search function is your best friend. There are lots of people who will respond with "do a search" to most posts. Justin Chancellor and Tool have been covered in numerous posts in this forum and there is a ton of information on him and his effects.

It is pretty much under consensus that his chain goes like this...

Wal Bass - Guyatone VTX Tube Tremolo - Digitech Bass Whammy (effected out) - Tech 21 GT2 Distortion - Boss CE-5 Chorus - Boss BF-2 Flanger - Boss DD3 Delay - Guyatone BR-2 Bottom Wah Rocker - Colorsound Tonebender Fuzz - Foxx Fuzz Wah Volume - GK 2001RB Amp - Mesa 8x10 Cab
Digitech Bass Whammy (dry out) - Proco Turbo Rat - Boss GEB-7 EQ - GK 2001RB Amp - Mesa 4x12 Cab

(feel free to correct me if wrong...I am looking at you Chronicle, Vegas, and others)

As far as the Muff question, again, do a search and you should get tons of info. THe metal muff is very liked around here, even though there are some users. The Little Big Muff is well liked and I personally own one and it gets "close" to a tonebender. There are also hundreds of other fuzz pedals that you might like that you could get from using the search.

Well, hopefully that helps and have a good one!
