heavy tone but distorted.

Found someone on craigslist selling a VodkaMods "Ratsputin" modified Proco RatII for 50$

that is why i bring up the rat

Also, the B:assmaster (Geranium) is pretty meaty. And... so is the Blackout effects Musket Fuzz. Blueberry fuzz... dude, the list is endless.

Basicly any Fuzz for bass will give you the sound you're after. It's just trying them out and watching demos to see which one has that certain flavor you're after. There are literally endless fuzz options out there.

Distortion will be more like a Rat pedal. You will loose a lot of low end and get more of a static-like tone. If you want low end, chest pounding, face melting tone... go fuzz.

i may get a rat since its a good price at 50$ and its modded... anyone here play a rat on bass?

Maaaaaaaaaany of us have rats, rat clones, or have owned them.
A rat or clone is exactly what you want, but based in what you mentioned in your op, I would steer clear of a rat 2 (newer version), which is probably the $50 rat you're looking at.
