distortion pedal based on JCM900?

Sign in to disble this ad
So i mostly just do recording, and I typically use software effects for bass tone, and lately I've really been digging the sound of running my bass through a marshall JCM900 set to heavy drive--is there a pedal that is based on that sound?

I see a lot of pedals that are based on the marshall plexis and after some reading, the JCM series replaced the plexi, but not being an amp historian, i don't know how similar the tones are!

There is a (I believe) discontinued Plexi Pedal from Marshall.

if any plexi emulation pedal will work, than that opens up quite a few options

Please forgive my ignorance towards Marshall amps, and my advice might be way off base, but I use and love a Zvex Distortron pedal. It is modeled after a classic JTM45 and IMO sounds killer on bass.

Whether the JCM900 and JTM45 are anything comparable in tones, is where I am of no help. If that's the case - move along, there is nothing to see here.....

Humm, I don't think anyone has tried to label this one as what they copied.

I actually have a JCM900, and play it with guitar, never tried it with bass.

Perhaps an MI Audio Crunchbox would be close, but who knows how that would actually sound in front of another amp. Also, would look at other distortion pedals based on the Marshall sound. Come to think of it, the Marshall Jackhammer would probably work out very well too.

The Digitech GNX 3000 and probably other Digitech offerings do have the JCM900 model, which would work well in a DI situation. FWIW, I use the GNX 3000 for practice through a home stereo PA setup, and it sounds better than Sansamp for this stuff. Also, I do find the JCM900 model to be pretty close to my amp as far as breakup, etc
