Distortion...............Really

Sign in to disble this ad
dis·tor·tion
–noun
1. an act or instance of distorting.
2. the state of being distorted or the relative degree or amount by which something is distorted or distorts.
3. anything that is distorted, as a sound, image, fact, etc.

Seriously, I run a Boss pedal, it's 'okay' but not what I am looking for.

My tone is all bottom. and I want something that will be ugly enough, but just not jack my volume.

I guess distortion with some class? All tuned to a "G" on a 6-string. Any suggestions??

Hmmm... you'll need to give us a little more info.
1) Have you tried any other pedals besides the Boss (and which Boss is it?)
2) Have you searched on the word "distortion" yet? (Hint: say yes, and mean it.)
3) Your descriptives are a bit hard to understand- your tone is "all bottom", but it needs to "have class" yet "be ugly", and yet not be just a volume boost? Those terms don't really tell us anything.

Here's what to do (besides searching): post some MP3 or Youtube links of the sound you're after, then tell us your maximum budget. That way we can actually make some meaningful recommendations.

Your music only shows us what sound you already have. I thought you wanted something different? Again, I/we will be glad to help, but you have to give us something to go on.

ODB-3? That's the yellow Boss bass distortion.

Always worth mentioning the Marshall Guv'nor - has 4 band EQ - Treble, Mid, Bass and DEEP!!

Variable drive, master volume.

Try the sansamp bass driver, it's good at distorting the bottom and the highs and make it "not sound like crap"'ish

Try the Tech 21 XXLB, it might be discontinued now but that's got some great reviews and it fits your description as far as I can tell.

There are also clips of it in the TB wiki which could be helpful, I've just checked and it's not discontinued.

As does the Ashdown James Lomenzo Hyperdrive which will probably be my next purchase - just waiting to hear some clips of it first, but I've read a few posts from people who have bought it and reckon it's the best distortion pedal they've ever tried.

I like to hear it! (the above that is)

I had the Tech21 XXL, I do have the ODB3, which is passable live.

This is such a subjective topic.

I am going to check out the suggestions!

My pre amp has really nice distortion built right in. SVP-BSP. The dirty channel can give me killer distortion with no effects. (think Beastie Boys Sabotage).

you really should try the boss hm-2, from the 80s. Its an awesome pedal with tons of low end, I think it could fit in your band.
