Distortion and Wah Pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Ibanez GSR 200 bass guitar with a Fender Rumble 15w amp. I want to get a pedal for playing metalcore and thrash metal, what do you guys recommend? I have heard that the Boss OBD-3 and the EHX Bass Big Muff Pi were good distortion pedals and the Dunlop Crybaby Bass Wah is a good wah pedal, what do you guys think? I was also wondering if I could hook up a distortion pedal and a wah pedal together? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The ODB-3 and BBM are good pedals if you like how they sound, if you don't they are not. I've owned both, they are very different.

Yes you can run dirt > wah or wah >dirt or both [this is where having more then one dirt box comes in handy] and get some cool sounds. Example... ever hear of Metallica? [Big muff > Morley wah]

I'm not a huge fan of Wahs or metalcore... but i have friends into both and a couple of them use the Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah. As for the dirt, i'll give a +1 to both the ODB-3 and the BBM (i have both). They can both be dialed to ridiculous distortion and still retain good low end. I'd also throw the Digitech Bass Driver into the mix as well.

I`ve owned the Big Muff, and tried the ODB-3. I wouldn't go with the Big Muff, because it's more of a creamy fuzz with good sustain... I don't think it will fit your style. I'd go with the ODB-3. As for wahs, stay away from the Dunlop GBC-100 which was the first Dunlop bass wah... I had one and it was terrible. The 105Q (white one) is supposed to kick ass. Tim Commerford of RATM/Audioslave rocks two of those at the same time... pretty sick. I heard the Morley bass wah is also great... I think Rex Brown of Pantera uses (or used) one.
