Exclamation Distosore vs Red Ripper

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello low frequencies lovers !

I need to get a distortion bass pedal, don't know which one is the best for almost the same price.

I cannot try them, so I count on your advices to make my choice.

Markbass distosore or Tech21 red Ripper ?

Thanx

Can you describe the sound you're looking for? Like...such and such band on such and such song.

I'm not looking for a particular sound, I play with different bands and different styles, I need a "clean" distortion, I mean soft not oversaturated (metal bands) I usaly play funk blues soft rock pop I just need to color my sound a bit on few parts.

The Markbass effects suck IMO. Toneless POS's. There's my opinion for ya on THOSE dang things. Love their amps though.

I've looked more into fuzz than distortion. I went through a few pedals before I ended up on the Iron Ether Oxide. I dig it because its sound is more refined and "clean" (to me) than the others ones I had. That might be similar to what you're looking for. The Dark Glass B3K gets pretty distorted but can stay clean. I upgraded to it from the Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI because I found the sounds less artificial. Between the Oxide and the B3K, I've got my OD, fuzz, crunch, and distortion covered and it can all go to just a light coloration of those sounds, too.

But that's my pretty limited experience....try out bassfuzz.com.

No prob. I found that the rating system wasn't to my tastes at all...almost more of what a funker would like. My advice is to ingore those ratings and just read the reviews of the options and listen to A LOT of youtube vids.....and then buy from the classifieds here so you get the stuff for cheap. When I was on my fuzz search, I could buy something from here used, try it out, decide I didn't like it, and then sell it here for the same price. That's the way to go.

I have the markbass, and there's nothing clean or soft about it. It starts at ANGRY and gets progressively nastier from there. And just because there's a tube in there doesn't mean the distortion effect is going to sound 'warm' or 'round'. I actually use it now 90% of the time just for the included (solid state) compression, and the little bit of coloration the sound gets just from running through the tube with the mix set all the way to clean. It's a little 'warmer', but not $200 worth. I should have gotten the Compressore.

Judging by the way Tech 21 describes the Ripper, that might not be the one for you either. Sounds like it would be great to pair with a synth or an envelope tho.

Check out the Way Huge Pork Loin. It's got the phrase 'Soft Clip Injection' right on the front.

P&C??

The B3K does deserve all of this hype!! It is just so versatile and easy to use. You really can get a tremendous variety of OD > Distortion.

I also picked up a Prunes and Custard to take care of the ol' Fuzz stuffis. I was considering the Red Ripper, but wanted something a little more unique. Well brother, this thing delivers in spades.
It is the perfect combination of Fuzz and Harmonic Intermodulation.
