DIY bass effects...are there any?

Sign in to disble this ad
I wanted to know if there were any schematics for DIY bass effects available online. I know there are plenty of schematics for DIY guitar effects but very few for bass.

The reason I ask is because although I could just use the guitar effects I was under the impression that they did not properly pass the low end.

Where might I find schematics for bass OR where can I find info on making the proper modifications to the pedal to make it bass-worthy?

There's really no such thing as guitar or bass effects (at least in my eyes). Sometimes, you can lose the low end for the sake of the right effect. That being said-- I've seen plenty of mods, but not a whole lot of bass-oriented effects for DIY guys.

Distortion is really the only thing you have to worry about, though. Most modulation/echo stuff will work fine.

Usually the difference between guitar and bass distortions is a clean blend or a few capacitor changes. So, how about a DIY clean blend pedal?

That's really just a schematic, though. So prolly not the best starting point. : /

edt-- just realized a schematic is actually what you're looking for. I have a bad habit of not reading things.

Generally, you can raise the input and output cap values to allow more bass signal to pass.

Wounded Paw makes a blender (and has a kit to build for less) for $120 that would allow you to blend in clean lows to 'guitar' effects.

Build a Bazz Fuss: http://www.home-wrecker.com/bazz.html

Super-simple and easy to mod/tweak. All the parts are available from Radio Shack. Plus, SICK fuzz.
I like a 1uF output cap to make it ruuuuuuumble.

The Bazz Fuss is a great place to start. Very usable, and very easy!

General Guitar Gadgets also has a ton of good information (and good kits, etc...)

Replace the diode with a 3.3Mohm resistor, eliminate the transformer and use a germanium transistor and the Deluxe Bazz Fuss is basically a Cream Pie Deluxe.
